Title: Computer help
Post by: RED-DOG on May 05, 2013, 01:20:56 PM
I have two identical wired computer meece, mice, mouses, W/E.

Yesterday my laptop made that 'Bing bong' sound that says "You've just unplugged something." and the mouse stopped working.

I checked that I hadn't accidentally pulled the wire out, and I plugged it in and out a few times but it wouldn't work.

Mouse Kaput! I concluded.

I plugged in the other identical mouse and it worked fine for a while, and then, 'Bing bong' same scenario.

Now I'm getting intermittent working / bing bonging from both mice. Sometimes a single bing, sometimes long series rapid bing bongs.

I apologise if this description is too thecnichal, I have tried to dumb it down as much as possible.

I have tried turning my computer off and on again so I am aware that any other suggested solutions will be second best.

Have you tried putting it in a different hole, as the actress said to the bishop.

Yeah, sounds like a USB-port issue.

If not, then try switching it off and on again...

Yes, as the actress always said to the bishop.

Pretty sure this has been covered plenty of times before on here by the helpful blonde computer people.

Obviously I know the answer myself but I feel it's best said by others:

Have you tried switching it off and on?

Have you tried switching it off and on?

Sorry if I'm too late, but have you tried turning it off and on?

If none of the above are of any use I'd suggest you get yourself one of these devices. Fixes just about anything.

Glad to be of help.

You had to react.

I thought you would have had more self control....

Great stuff Dan. Pretty sure that should sort Tom's little problem.

Just in case it's not enough I've managed to find this as well.

Pretty sure this solves everything.

Actually, you might be on to something there.

Hadn't thought of this.

Could be worth a go Tom if the other suggestions don't fix things.

That should do it, but he might need more of a complex flow-chart to ensure the problem is resolved.  Fortunately, I have one:

Sorry for messing about Tom. I know it can be frustrating when people apparently waste your precious time.

I've got the real answer for you assuming you still want some assistance?

I've put it in a little box for you. Help yourself.
