Title: Bell's palsy Post by: leethefish on May 12, 2013, 08:15:19 PM I've been unsure whether or not to post about my condition but have decided to 10 days later !
For anyone that seen me @ DTD yesterday you will of realised that it looks as if I've had a stroke .....although the facial symptoms are similar I've been diagnosed with Bell's palsy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell's_palsy The right hand side of my face is paralysed I literally can't close my eye or smile ! Has anyone or friends or family suffered ? Title: Re: Bell's palsy Post by: Eck on May 12, 2013, 08:19:15 PM yep friend had it a while back, think he put it down to driving a lot with the window open? (don't know if that was or wan't real cause)
Anyway he has recovered totally now, good luck hope you get better soon. It took a while, but she totally recovered thankfully.

Course of antibiotics and both recovered fully.
Once you have had it once you can be susceptible to getting it again Good luck with a hopefully swift recovery Title: Re: Bell's palsy Post by: The Camel on May 12, 2013, 08:45:02 PM One of the analysts on Sky's NFL programme - former player Cecil Martin - has got it.
He caught it (is caught it the right term? I don't think it's contagious) on a long haul flight. Unfortunately he hasn't recovered. Doesn't seem to affect him too much though. Title: Re: Bell's palsy Post by: Skippy on May 12, 2013, 08:49:08 PM Famous person (if you like wrestling) who also has it:

Looks like it's a term that covers the symptoms, but the causes seem to be wide-ranging (therefore treatments will be as well). Sounds like most people spontaneously recover in quite a short time. Hope that's the case for you Lee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell%27s_palsy Title: Re: Bell's palsy Post by: BorntoBubble on May 13, 2013, 02:08:00 AM Get well soon Lee

Funnily enough (not at the time) i woke up on Christmas Day morning and my parents thought I'd had a stroke and rushed me to the emergency doctors. I was given a 2 week course of some form of steroid and my face was totally back to normal shortly after. From what i remember it really wasn't very pleasant and I totally sympathize - however don't worry, couple of weeks and you should be good as new. (The only slight issue which remains from mine is I don't seem to be able to raise the right hand side of my mouth as much as i can my left when smiling - or at least it feels like it to me - feels like my smile is slightly lopsided but nobodies ever mentioned it no pretty sure its not noticeable).

Being the caring older brother that I am, I called her pirate for a few weeks and kept saying "ooooh aaaaarrrrrrrrr" She was fine and we laugh about it now.

Redsgirl - I don't believe Bells Palsy can be contracted via a public swimming pool, unless you are up to some very extreme activities which I would think are highly improbable. Carry on swimming.
