Title: Vegan Food Post by: Dubai on May 14, 2013, 10:44:02 AM Anyone have any experience cooking vegan food? Need some ideas other than the boring stuff ie a plate of vegetables!
Oh just to make it harder, can't eat wheat/gluten either. Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: millidonk on May 14, 2013, 10:47:22 AM (http://cdn.veggieboards.com/a/a1/a162c255_vbattach17769.jpeg)
Spinach riccotta canneloni type thing with wheat and gluten free pasta or whatever it is, that's what my missus cooks my dad's missus whenever they visit (she is of a similiar disposition). Oh just to make it harder, can't eat wheat/gluten either. I've an American friend who's the same. Have sent her a message and will post back when she replies. If you want to cheat then quite a lot of the Linda Mcartney range always used to be vegan as well as vegetarian Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: paulhouk03 on May 14, 2013, 12:35:03 PM tofu?

Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: Dubai on May 14, 2013, 02:46:46 PM Doing this for a prop bet Dave? There isn't enough money in circulation to make this happen! We had a funny conversation the other day. The question was for how much money would you need to get paid to eat the 15 course tastin menu, every day for the next year at the fat duck, you can't eat anything else and you have to have the wine pairings. Plus the staff have a memory loss so they never recognise you so each day you have too listen to them describing each course and each glass of wine. I reckon it's nearly impossible to do, imagine how tilted you would be when for the 300th time they describe sound of the sea dish and recommend you put the iPod on to get the whole experience Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: Laxie on May 14, 2013, 03:09:28 PM Doing this for a prop bet Dave? Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: paulhouk03 on May 14, 2013, 03:11:23 PM is the fat duck that good?
my friends said it was ok and said the experience is better then the food Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: mulhuzz on May 14, 2013, 03:19:35 PM Doing this for a prop bet Dave? I guess anything everyday for a year would be pretty dull after a while, at least Heston's ok at cooking. Great place to go once, menu barely ever changed so you need a long time between to go the second time. Food still decent but the experience is really good, the first time anyway. Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: Laxie on May 15, 2013, 01:51:53 PM Cathy just got back to me with a couple of links. She says gluten free vegan isn't really her thing (she tried gluten free and hated it), but these are a couple of links to keep you going while she digs out some more...
http://www.theglutenfreevegan.com/ Not all of the recipes in the next link are gluten free, but you'll find a few and might be able to work with some of them. http://veganmenu.blogspot.co.uk/ This link has loads of recipes, so take your pick... http://www.justapinch.com/search/recipes/?k=gluten+free+vegan Good luck! Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: Dubai on May 16, 2013, 01:31:42 PM Thanks a lot. Had a look at some of the food and actually sounds really good. My missus is on a diet for an abroad wedding we got to go, and she was salivating to VEGAN food when I sent her the link. Bless
Think going to go along the lines with Vietnamese summer rolls with a spicy dip followed by 3 bean chilli with gluten/wheat free tortillas. If its boring just whack load of spice to mask the blandness Title: Re: Vegan Food Post by: gouty on May 16, 2013, 06:20:31 PM is the fat duck that good? my friends said it was ok and said the experience is better then the food Your friend is right. They turned up for lunch and go for the tasting menu but chose the cheapest wine match option from the waiter. He then went for a piss and the lawyer beckons the waiter back over and says they have changed their mind and would opt for the spunkier wines with every course. They lunch for about 4 hours and throughout the poor guy keeps saying how nice the wines were and how happy he was not wasting money on the expensive list. The bill arrived for £2.4k. He was about to flip out but looked to see his two dining buddies just crying laughing. |
