Title: Stacks Accidentally Merging Rule????
Post by: theprawnidentity on May 19, 2013, 07:37:39 PM
Playing a liveament this weekend and I'm sure I remember hearing something about a ruling if stacks on the table accidentally merge (by someone falling onto the table / earthquake / table falling over / any other unlikely scenario you can think of).

Have I heard someone say that should stacks accidentally become merged, then the average amount of chips have to be distributed to each player as there is no way to determine who had what stack?  Or, and possibly more likely, have I completely made this rule up in my head and now believe that someone told me it?

like this rule...next time I am short stacked I might 'accidentally' trip, throw myself on the table and try to upend  it to send them chips flying while gracefully apologizing

Having had this situation happen before, I handled it by asking the two individuals to come to a compromise on what they both believed they had, and subsequently made as fair a decision I could in returning the chips to the rightful players.

Divisible by average isn't fair if you've got 100k and 10k, as an extreme. I am sure there might come a time that someone would make such a resolution difficult, and it would therefore require a decision of this nature.

But I think the game has to be fair, and dividing the chips equally isn't, in my opinion, the fairest course of action but the last course of action.
