Title: Trip to the Alea Post by: rmathews1 on May 23, 2013, 05:13:15 PM Hi all,
I'm making a trip tonight to play in the deepstack tournament at the Alea for the first time. Was just wondering if there were any tips on how I should play or adjust my style to the type of player typically playing there? Thank you (Edit: it is the Alea in Nottingham) Title: Re: Trip to the Alea Post by: cambridgealex on May 23, 2013, 10:51:38 PM Hi Rory, sorry you didn't get any responses before you played! How did it go?
I would have said it's a really friendly game, more relaxed than DTD in fact. The style of play is a lot different to the DTD beginners tournament because many of the players have been playing for decades in that same cardroom! My main piece of advice would have been to play really solid starting hands, and play them aggressively, bet if you hit, and give up if you miss. It's dreadfully straight forward and simple sounding - but you really won't go far wrong. Don't try and bluff them! Hope you took it down. Just couldn't really get anything going, was one of those nights where you look down at Jc Jd and then the flop comes Ad Qs x against a guy that hasn't played a hand all night. Happy with how I played and definitely agree that the atmosphere was very friendly. It was nice to play in a bigger buy-in tournament too compared to the beginners at DTD and I learnt a lot from watching one of the regs who was unfortunately sat on my left. I am definitely tempted to have a shot at some bigger tourneys at dtd now though. Thanks for the advice would def say it would have been the best way to play.
