Title: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: anthonyl on May 23, 2013, 05:44:08 PM anyone go to many games each season?
going to my first game of the season the weekend after this... magoffin got 12 wickets for 31 runs over two innings v somerset including 20/8! pretty ridic :) Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: gherkin on May 23, 2013, 06:04:09 PM I go to the majority of Warwickshire games (although as I type this I'm watching them on the TV instead). Not a great start to the season although we've had to play pretty much every game with 6 or 7 first XI players missing because of injury or international call ups. If we can stick within 30 points of the leaders with 5 or 6 games to go (by then we should have a few key players back) then we've definitely got a chance. I hope so anyway because our 1 day cricket is pretty ordinary, not expecting much in the CB40 or T20.
Middlesex look great and Yorkshire & Sussex have done really well to be where they are. I stand by my pre-season assessment of Durham, even though they'll go top if the beat Middlesex! I saw them play Warwickshire near the start of the season and they were thrashed by our B team. No idea what is going on at Somerset, they look pretty ordinary this year. Not been for a while now, should maybe make an effort sometimes :)
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: TightEnd on May 23, 2013, 06:09:52 PM Surrey member and work at some games around the country too
Surrey a very unbalanced side, poor batting side and not many players in their prime Things will look up when Adams goes and we trust in our very good acadamy a bit more Lad is a big Northants fan so I watch them quite a bit too. Clutching some betting vouchers tightly for LVCC Div 2 at the moment! Family moved to London when I was 10 and my Grandparents were Surrey members and got me a Junior Membership Until I was old enough to get myself back to leicester my sport was Rugby in the winter and Cricket in the summer hols at the Oval RHB is a great natural talent. After the disaster of last year with his captaincy and Tom Maynard, he had to leave. Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: anthonyl on May 23, 2013, 06:24:05 PM Nice, well good luck for the season!
Edgbaston holding the 20-20 final, so hopefully make a trip up there this season gherkin :) Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: gherkin on May 23, 2013, 11:18:32 PM Nice, well good luck for the season! Edgbaston holding the 20-20 final, so hopefully make a trip up there this season gherkin :) Excellent, I'll be there, although the chances I'll be watching Warwickshire are slim to nil! Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: stato_1 on May 23, 2013, 11:26:11 PM Just got back from a very cold Edgbaston where Notts beat Warks. Didn't know how much it would be, couldn't believe it was £20. Pretty sure if it was a £10 they couldve doubled the amount of ppl in the ground it was pretty much empty. Go to Notts quite a bit and sometimes Leicester as I played in their junior set-up as a young lad. Current brag is that I got 50 last year against the lad who's getting all Leicestershire's wickets this season, Ollie Freckingham.
Notts looking strong on paper with a team almost full of internationals, Hales is a bit out of form, but Lumb looked absolutely quality tonight, class apart from everyone else, timing the arse off it! Warks look bit fragile atm. Never been a Rory fan, he thinks he's way better than he is. Think Sussex will be right up there this season, certainly not 6th like some suggested. Sussex dont get interrupted by call ups fortunately. Most underrated is Nash, gets wickets whenever a breakthrough is needed. Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: AndrewT on June 04, 2013, 11:57:35 PM I'm thinking of wandering along to Middlesex v Sussex at Lords on Thursday - £16 to spend a day in the sunshine quenching my thirst at HQ seems like an idea.
So, obv, if anyone else wants to wander down we can meet up. Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: big poppa on June 10, 2013, 09:05:08 PM Hi.
I'm a Derby and Nott's fan and I used to go to both the county ground and Trent bridge quite regularly until family commitments took over. Very pleased that Derbyshire won promotion last year. Very much an unfashionable county with limited resources. Staying up in Div 1 will be as much of an achievement as getting there last year. Nott's have enjoyed some good success and I expect them to lift some silverware this season providing they keep there bowlers fit. I also play locally and have played with and against some first class players including John Birch who used to play for Nott's a few years back now. I know this is off the subject but we are looking for players again this year so if you fancy donning some whites let me know :) Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: vegaslover on June 10, 2013, 09:12:28 PM Unbeaten record coming to an end.. Wrighty wasn't happy at that prospect so stuck around to ensure the draw!!! Going to watch lashings on Friday Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Woodsey on June 12, 2013, 12:00:36 AM Got an offer on to go watch Notts v sussex for £1 in a T40 game next friday. Have just messaged a couple of mates so see if they are up for it (they not fussed about cricket but might come for the ale and a night in Notts). If anyone wants to go an meet for a beer let me know, I'll come and meet you for a few even if my mates can't :)
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on June 13, 2013, 03:42:09 PM Middlesex how they at top?
Yorkshire currently smashing them, 1 1/3 day left to rattle off 10 wickets for win pls! Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: TightEnd on June 13, 2013, 03:54:15 PM Middlesex how they at top? Yorkshire currently smashing them, 1 1/3 day left to rattle off 10 wickets for win pls! Yorkshire won the toss on a good pitch in nice conditions Got a score they should have got By the time Middlesex bat the light is bad, the rain comes and goes and the ball is swinging in overcast conditions Not rocket science, and not indicative of a bad side, any more than Yorkshire were a bad side when they got stuffed in a game early on Both are decent sides Just that bit of luck a side needs with weather and the toss which evens up over the course of a season Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on June 13, 2013, 04:07:54 PM Aye that's what I thought. Yorkshire got hammered first game of the season and pretty much should have won virtually every game since. Not too bad considering that England have rooooooot :)
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: AndrewT on June 13, 2013, 06:38:05 PM When I saw Middlesex last week they looked to lack edge - totally let Sussex off the hook in a game they should have won.
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on June 14, 2013, 04:09:00 PM well it was easy in the end 10 wicket victory, top by 17 for now at least..promising start.

Anyone else playing? Telegraph site, £10 for four teams. Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: BorntoBubble on June 24, 2013, 12:15:23 AM Good to see KP in the runs. Not that we need much help in the ashes. But would be nice to have him in the runs!
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on July 18, 2013, 07:19:43 PM Yorkshire looking to go top. 617-5 dec. Derby 67-5 in reply. Finish them!
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on July 19, 2013, 06:38:09 PM easy win for Yorkshire to go back to the top and 10 points clear :)
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on August 23, 2013, 02:32:52 PM Another easy wins for Yorkshire over Notts (well they need 9 runs in the second inns), can this be our season! Not many games left, 2 more wins I am guessing for the title. Weather changing means less and less full 4 days being played.
Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: vegaslover on August 23, 2013, 09:43:46 PM Should be Yorkshires. Durham would have to win both games in hand just to get close.
As you say, weather gonna play a part on who wins Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on August 28, 2013, 11:14:52 AM Durham easy win so today's showdown Vs Yorkshire at S'boro might be for the title.
Durham wins toss and bats.. 5-2......good start for the Yorkie's. Title: Re: Cricket fans? county championship thread Post by: Acidmouse on September 02, 2013, 09:54:11 AM Well done Durham, very well timed victory over Yorkshire to be now favorites for the title.
