Title: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: theprawnidentity on June 06, 2013, 09:10:58 PM Had a browse through the lounge and taking inspiration from Tommy Bingham talking about retro gaming in his thread I thought it might be cool to see if there was any interest in a general gaming thread. We're talking anything from PC/XBOX/PS3/NINTENDO/SEGA and any other form of computer gaming old, current or future you can think of. Not sure if there are many gamers on Blonde but theres only one way to find out. Although I don't get much time to play these days (and am not particularly great at computer games when I do play) I do still enjoy sitting down and playing some PC/XBOX from time to time.
Lets do this....... Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: Tal on June 06, 2013, 09:27:39 PM Other than on the mobile, I don't do gaming anymore. Used to be an absolute Nintendo nut.
YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8BS4Pbo22A Many moons ago, I knew every move for every character. Would struggle to tell you one or two for each now. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: George2Loose on June 06, 2013, 09:28:48 PM Street fighter 2 tourney would be epic
Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: theprawnidentity on June 06, 2013, 09:56:27 PM A retro gaming tournament would be sick! I quite liked TB's idea about perhaps doing it for charity, but can't see it taking off in the immediate future (I hope I'm wrong).
In more recent gaming news, I purchased the newish Tomb Raider game for xbox and have to say I was very impressed. The graphics are amazing and the story line certainly made me want to carry on playing. It wasn't the longest game I've every played, but there is a multiplayer online Halo style that I haven't had a go at yet. For those of you who enjoyed either Hit Man or the original Tomb Raider games, I would defo recommend giving it a go. I also bought Formula One Stars (or w/e its called, the karting one) about 10mins ago and I am hoping its like Mario Kart / Crash Team Racing. Another rubbish review to follow no doubt!!! For those of you with xbox live, pretty sure I'm tomsom87 on there too! Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: Acidmouse on June 06, 2013, 11:48:29 PM a long long time ago...i used to be very good at:

Just getting back into indi PC games, from sites like Humble Bumble, where you get cracking games for a price u decide to pay.. http://www.humblebundle.com/ worth a gander. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: maldini32 on June 07, 2013, 12:01:16 AM Great Thread.
I used to absolutely love PES, but now I'm a FIFA nut and have absolutely done my conkers on their ultimate team. Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat/Shinobi reminds me when it was 10p for a game at the arcades. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: DaveShoelace on June 07, 2013, 08:26:11 AM Not played video games in years but I was the boss on Tekken 2. My friends and I played a game called 'Tekken Flick Nose' where the loser of the game got a painful flick on the nose from his opponent. I had a run of about 72 games unbeaten in that, and when I finally was defeated, my mate missed my nose trying to set up a elaborate flick.
Life went downhill after that. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: Cf on June 07, 2013, 08:38:13 AM I used to play video games all the time in my youth. Still do a fair bit but nowhere near as much as I used to.
Currently I'm playing through Ni No Kuni. Anyone who is in to RPGs might want to take a look. As far as Tekken goes the ones I remember most were 2 and 3. My favourite character in 2 was Michelle. In 3 it was Julia. How happy was I when Tekken Tag came out and I could play as them both at the same time!! Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: theprawnidentity on June 07, 2013, 09:17:42 AM http://www.humblebundle.com/ Just looked at this and I'm not sure that I dare download it!!!! I think if I do I might be saying goodbye to many hours. Great Thread. I used to absolutely love PES, but now I'm a FIFA nut and have absolutely done my conkers on their ultimate team. TY. I only really played the first PES, I think the whole R. Lacros, D. Backhim thing put me off!!!! Really enjoyed FIFA 12 and spent a lot of time playing that. FIFA 13 didn't really catch my attention that much and although I have played it a bit, I've played it nowhere near as much as I did its predecessor. I imagine it wont be too long before FIFA14 shows up now. The later levels just get daft with no room for error whatsoever. it did not happen over night! I played it loads and loads when I was younger. In fact, I still have my PS1 disc which works in my PS3. As far as I'm aware it's pretty much the closest port to the arcade version. My least favourite levels as I recall were 63 (you had to bubble up the sides with space invaders raining fire down) and level 99 (which was just evil full stop). Get to the final dungeon within 12 hours to get the Excalibur II, the games most powerful sword. Doing that at the minute! So difficult. The Movie sequences take up alot of time during the run and they count towards the timer. The way to get around it is play on original Playstation One and open the disk tray during the FMV. That way, it skips them and gives you more time. :D Really difficult to do tho. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: theprawnidentity on October 11, 2013, 11:13:22 AM I agree on the intracacies of the game, absolutely amazing just how big the map is and how much detail is in there. I'm only about 50% of the way through the story so far though so no spoilers ;D
For me though, the keynote assassination and the the torture part didn't seem as bad as the Call of Duty mission in the Russian airport. And the end of the day though, it is just a game and I don't really mind as long as it's in context. I played this on the Atari, this WAS my child-hood! Funny (not at the time) story; I had the Atari magazine, and it this feature it has World Records for some games, River Raid being one of them. I was convinced, I'd beat the score indicated and the magazine prompted you to send a picture in etc.. So next time, duly beat the score!...My game ended, and asked my Mum for the camera (oh the joy of the world before Camera phones!) It turned out we didn't have a camera!, so I asked several neighbours, without success. Unfortunately my Mum didn't think it was a good to take up the TV until Monday when I'd ask my school or friends for a camera! In my heart I know I'm the champion of the world. I couldn't believe the number of adverts for titanfall all over normal tv schedules, kinda put me off tbh. Especially with how they are trying to move so many of the titles over to incremental rape rather than an upfront payment. twats ;tk; Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: AndrewT on May 29, 2014, 06:06:00 PM The reason they went OTT on Titanfall was because it was the first big XBox One game - it kinda has the hopes of the console resting on it.
Has anyone played Dayz, the zombie survival game? It's a totally different experience as you spend 99% of the time trudging through forests or looting houses then, out of nowhere, some fucker shoots a hole in your head and you have to start all over again. I haven't got into it but it seems absolutely brilliant, the maps are so huge and the tension is all created by yourself. As you start as a survivor and have nothing it matters not if you die, but once you've found some nice kit, got a good gun etc the tension ramps up as you're desperate not to lose it. There are some really well followed youtube channels that post long gameplay from it and it's actually very enjoyable to watch (mainly because they fast forward and just show you on the map how they ran through a forest for 15 mins to go round a dodgy looking village or w/e). In one clip a group of well kitted out people with vehicles and everything, round up some freshly spawned noobs on the auspice of helping them. They coral them all onto a bus drive them to 'safety' then when they get to their camp, they put 2 inside a fenced off area, lob in one axe and say 'who wants to live'. absolutely hilarious, or at least it was to me. similarly watching some bandits come up upon someone, get them to put down their weapon then..... 'take off your trousers' just always makes me laugh. Very much seems a good game to play with a group of friends though meeting up with the maps being so huge and spawns being random can be a real ballache. cod is for kids imo. unfortunately bf4 promised so much and delivered so very very little. really glad their share price dropped so harshly they really did balls up the release it's untrue. it's ok though the games still not fixed or even been massively overhauled but they have brought out two more bits of downloadable content (obv not free) and are in the works on more all the while whilst the current game is in a mess. Last night I played Firewatch, the latest game in a genre which gets pejoratively called 'walking simulators' but are really more interactive stories. You play a guy who takes a summer job acting as a forest fire lookout in deepest Wyoming, essentially cut off from the outside world save for a walkie-talkie link to your boss Delilah, in a lookout tower several miles away. You potter about, doing various tasks around the forest, and then things happen that drive the story along, strange things that suggest some sort of mystery. However, that's not really what the game is about - it's really about the relationship that your character has with this disembodied voice across the forest. The way the script is written and the voice acting, really makes these characters believable. I couldn't go to bed last night until I'd finished it (it's only about 5-6 hours in length) and whilst I thought the end doesn't quite live up to the promise of what went before it's a still a really involving little game. I'm going to have a look at other games like this (Dear Esther, Gone Home) as it seems like a really nice change from the huge, sprawling open-world stuff I usually get consumed by (over the past few months I've put in over 130 hours each on Witcher 3 and Fallout 4). What else have people been playing of late? Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: theprawnidentity on February 23, 2016, 06:31:45 PM Timed well!!! I have been playing chunks and chunks of Hearthstone recently and absolutely love it.
Bought Fallout 4 and didn't really get into it. I like games with direction and I sort of lost my way a few hours in and every time I try to play I just seem to wander round aimlessly for a while and give up on it. Also bought Rocket League and like it a lot (like football with cars), really simple concept but strangely addictive. Title: Re: ***THE OFFICIAL COMPUTER GAMING THREAD*** Post by: AndrewT on February 23, 2016, 07:12:18 PM Fallout 4 took me a little while to get into, but then I went all completey (if that is even a word) and was determined to find all the locations and get all the bobbleheads.
Whilst it's still really good, it suffers in comparison to, say, New Vegas as the missions just aren't as good - most of them are just 'go to this place, kill all the creatures/people then come back' or 'go to this place, find this thing (killing everyone along the way), and then bring it back'. I liked the way the companion thing worked (some great characters like Codsworth and Nick Valentine), but the major new thing they put in (settlements) are just lolshit. Next up on my list to get are The Witness and XCOM 2, though I have also been looking at Rocket League as I don't really have a game which is a 'have a quick play of this for 20 minutes' kinda thing - everything I normally do I play all night. Rocket League is a great play for 20 minutes sort of game. Controls are really intuitive, gameplay is good and the game is surprisingly hard to master. Last few games I've played are Blood Bowl, which was mildly amusing but never quite hooked me in and the online games were full of bitching by players way better than me. Excited for the hearthstone changes too.
