In my school holidays I used to come to Nottingham and visit my grandparents for a week and during that time my grandma would always have one night when her friends came around to play kalooki and she used to let me play for an hour or so while she got the tea and cakes ready.

This was from when I was about seven or eight years old and used to keep any profits that I made. They played for threepence, sixpence and a shilling on the game.

I've not played for a while now.

I played Kalooki about 20/30 years ago . Those were there day I played at Derby Casino with Pete Costa , Ash Abdullah and another Indian kid name " Murgee " . At that point we were playing £25/£50/100 with 2 life . Big game considering the amount we played at that time . Best game ever because all of us are fairly good at the game .

Still remember that everytime we played , I NEVER see Pete won a single sessions . Ali Bag Of Bollock use to be the runner for Pete Costa to the ATM machine taking out money for him . Those were the day .

It's a great game just wondered why no1 ever has made a set of rules or tried to take it more main stream as young and all seem to enjoy it

It's a great game but like many other hand-games when serious money is at stake there suddenly appear to be magicians around who can do card-tricks, especially with the jokers at kalooki.*

* Disclaimer. My granny never resorted to such underhanded foul play.

This game are very tricky especially when it's self dealt ( rotate ). Someone is very good out there dealing card when Joker is involve! Lots of cheating and gang plan aswell . Be careful playing this with pros who master in dealing . They get the 2 jokers everytime they dealt

Its played a lot locally and an oldhand has told me to play several times. Apparently I'd make a lot of money. Pretty nice of him to invite me now I think about it.... :)

The game is alive and kicking in luton. You can usually see a game or two being played before the tourney and the later stages when players get bioted out the comp
