Title: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Jack high? on July 08, 2013, 08:30:27 PM Hi all,
Loooong time lurker of this excellent forum! Been playing live tourneys for 4 years but never came across this situation until Saturday. £35 freeze out donkathon in Brum. Last 2 tables and massive chip lead loses a big pot but is still chip lead. He then states that he doesn't want to play anymore and proceeds to go all in blind on every hand. I'm on the SB with A,10 off, playing 13 bigs. I call. He turns over 5, 3 off and rivers (of course) a 5. Table laughs and I leave quietly fuming. Was it a loose call as I prob would have folded to a genuine raise? Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Young_gun on July 08, 2013, 08:32:52 PM obviously its a terrible call but you wanted the call, just say nice hand and walk quietly. Sick beat but perfect for you just wrong result
Welcome to blonde Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Jack high? on July 08, 2013, 09:02:32 PM Cheers Young_gun great to part of the community.
Villain was already all in blind (had me covered) when it folded round to me. Do you still think I should have called with A,10 off? Trying to make myself feel better lol! Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: kinboshi on July 08, 2013, 09:05:22 PM The call's fine as you know he's shoving any-two-cards and you're well ahead of his range and it's a great chance of a double-up. Of course, 35% of the time he's going to win the hand, and you're going to be watching from the rail.
Welcome to blonde :hello: Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: tikay on July 08, 2013, 09:07:22 PM Cheers Young_gun great to part of the community. I'm calling there all day & night, & I am King Nit. It is a wonderful spot, as good as it gets. Just because we lost does not mean it was wrong. In these situations, try & visualise the exact same scenario re-enacted, say, 10,000 times. You would win 6,500 times, & Matey Boy would win 3,500 times. (approx). So, you'd soon be a millionaire. Forget the short term, think long term. Hope you enjoy blonde. Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? (I might have won one of those on Saturday...) Edit: also, call is fine and dandy. Just do a win next time. Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Tal on July 08, 2013, 09:28:35 PM Actually, as you described it as a "donkathon", it must have been the G, as the Broadway comp was full of online wizards, esteemed pros and senior Mensa figures.
Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Jack high? on July 08, 2013, 09:35:52 PM It was Broadway.
As you correctly state Tal Broadway is only frequented by bracelet winners...or so they think! Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Jack high? on July 08, 2013, 09:37:57 PM ...congrats on the win Tal. Would've been different if my hand had held lol.
Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Tal on July 08, 2013, 09:43:52 PM I've no doubt.
I was on the other of the two tables, of course. Was good fun on Saturday. The small field enabled them to run it with half hour levels and no antes. Perfect for us grinders :) Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: Young_gun on July 08, 2013, 09:52:36 PM Wow! 2 legends replied to my first ever post (no offence Young_gun!). Welcome to Blonde. BTW, I have been in a similar position but someone called before me. I was gutted as I was insta calling otherwise. Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: rfgqqabc on July 08, 2013, 11:25:04 PM The importance of making the correct decision for the correct reasons far outweighs the result or even equity of the situation. For exampe, even if he had AK here we have made the correct decision (correct reason pretty given, although I suppose someone could just say its my favourite hand etc) then we should leave the room happy with our play. Generally, leaving with a smile on your face even having taken a horrible beat or playing horribly is the way to go, it happens to the best of us.
Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: SuuPRlim on July 08, 2013, 11:47:19 PM yh you should defo have called, remember you are against every possible hand, he can have 92off T3off K4off if he's found AJ/AQ/AK or TT JJ QQ KK AA (the only hands that have you in trouble) as opposed to just having T8offsuit and you being a huge favorite then you're very unlucky.
Most of the time, ofc he'll have 2 live cards which usually gives him a 1 in 3 chance of beating you, but with a short stack like yours the oppurtunity to get your money in so well wont come around all that often, and if it does you might not have enough chips by then for it to be worth it. Title: Re: New situation. What would you do? Post by: theprawnidentity on July 08, 2013, 11:58:48 PM I might find the fold button subject to meeting ALL of the following criteria:
Its a live tournament 8am on a Monday morning In alaska Its a full moon San Marino are current world cup holders Ive just bagged 6 hookers for less than £5 AND Dominos pizza is reasonably priced. Otherwise, probs what lil' Dave said. Welcome to Blonde. |
