Title: Guess the item/ojbect? Post by: Acidmouse on July 19, 2013, 02:32:42 PM I held something today that is not something I have ever held before, my friend at work said it would take people 100s of guesses to find/identify the item/object. from simple yes or no answers..
I said it would be under 25 questions to get it... Please prove me right :) fire away please.. Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? Post by: Acidmouse on July 19, 2013, 02:33:12 PM I also have a photo i took that will be uploaded after a correct-ish answer is given.

It's between 100-1000 years old. It's organic. Not a religious artefact. Not been crafted. Not heavy. Would sell for over £1,000 (probably). Not functional. Not metal. From outside the UK. Not known by a single word. Not something that would commonly be held. Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? So, it could be a tooth from a tiger or something - but not sure if they'd sell for £1,000. Maybe along the lines of a rhino horn or similar? (that's not a guess by the way, just a musing). Could also be a tooth from someone famous from history, or their skull, or even their ashes? What are others thinking? Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? Post by: kinboshi on July 19, 2013, 04:04:17 PM THIS ISN'T A QUESTION, IT'S A SUMMARY OF WHAT WE KNOW
Seeing as it's organic, but not living, and not of animal origin - then it must be something that's from a plant or fungi (or possibly bacterial, but that's a bit unlikely). Maybe worth asking a question down those lines? Also worth remembering it's not from the UK. Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? Would anyone pay a grand for a lock of hair? Title: Re: Guess the item/ojbect? Post by: Acidmouse on July 19, 2013, 08:49:45 PM Mozart Hair from Mozart given by his widow to Vincent Novello in 1829! Had no idea it was in Special collections here until today. In those days it seems famous people didn't do autographs but they did in fact on occasion give bits of their hair... Novello (who started the whole Novello music legacy) was writing a book about Mozart and visited his wife when the exchange took place, which eventually was donated to Leeds Uni in the 1920's. The talk I went to, where the outgoing head of Special collections Chris talks about his top 10 fav items at the Uni. Very interesting how he talks about shakespeare first folio, why its important..bit heavy tbh unless you into history and unusual items. It includes the story of how they got Mozart's hair.. |
