I have just got BT broadband, had sky for years but the service and speed were shite.

Just tested the speed and getting a download of .45 and an upload of .70  lol

Anyone know how long BT take to settle down to the correct speed?

Not on Infinity then?

so you switched from sky to bt when its the same thing from your local exchange? if your local exchange is shit there it nothing you can do apart from virgin like I had to do. Infinity is not available in alot of Leeds, gg them.

My company supply broadband and sky and BT use the same circuits..other circuits in BT exchanges are LLU as used by Talk Talk etc..but standard distance to exchange and contention ratios still apply... Virgin or BT infinity  ( fibre to cabinet ) is the only real answer but BT FTC cant go over 1.5 km usually

My area gets infinity in the autumn.

Because I moved and took the same number with me had to restart a 12 month line deal with BT, so have their BB for the first time since the days of dial up.

Cancelled my sky in old place and got a brand new box, deal etc in mrs name. Sky now want you to switch the line to them as well so coudn't get BB with them.

In the old place the sky speeds were shite and they often chogged the speed at peak times

get infinity straight away its brilliant , BT put new fiber optic cable in for free here + you get BT Sport for free from 1st august

Just moved house and had to go from Infinity to normal BT :(

Hi, just wondering, I have BT fibre optic broadband, and it seems very slow?


We have multiple devices connected through the wireless hub, iPhones, pads, mac laptops and the like.

45.64 download, and 16.68 upload, seems lame?

What should I be getting?  I've had BT out before, and he "split some cables or something"...

If you're 10 yards feet from your cabinet you should get 75 to 80 down, if you're 400 yards away the speed looks about right.

I've got no idea how it all works, but was quite surprised about this happening at home...

The box for ours is literally on the street at the front of our house, and my average speed with the router on my desk is 75mb.

However, we're having the office redecorated this weekend, so I've moved into the room next to the office for a few days.

My PC is now a couple of yards from the router,but it has to travel through a wall, and my speed has dropped to ~15mb.

The router is probably still receiving 75Mb/s Marky, it's the wireless connection that is limiting it to 15.

I'm guessing your PC is a desktop? Internal wireless card or USB dongle? Ariel correctly connected?

I have Virgin atm and am getting over what we pay for. We got the 20mb package as there's only me and my Mrs in the house, and we're getting 23mb wireless. Apparently we live fairly close to the "base station" or whatever, but Virgin always give you a bit more so you 100% have what you're paying for.

Dont know if this is the same for BT or not, but we had this literally minuites after the guy plugged it in.

The bt hub is downstairs the mac is 15m away.

Wife has major issues on her ipad upstairs constantly. Distance wise roughly same, just different direction

Yeah, it's a desktop, and I've had it a few years now.

Guess it's time for me to get a new tower then :D

BT router is shit.
Even wired with ethernet I only get 1.8m
Have taken all the line extensions out too. I live about 6 doors away from the cabinet.

In my local area there appears to be a fixed wireless network i can get access to so should be able to go from 0.3 meg with sky through Bt lines to 10meg! With a bit of kit at home installed.

Bt infinity is 2016 roll out in my village so seems best option.

Anyone else apart from Milli got one of these fixed wireless networks?

I went from sky to bt I should have kept with sky was so much better

I just switched from BT to Virgin.  Service is rock solid and getting download speeds of 100 MB and upload speeds 10 MB.

Highly recommend!
