Title: Vegas 2014 - Family Holiday - Possible?
Post by: Waz1892 on August 12, 2013, 05:24:52 PM
Hi, we as a family of 4 (me, wife and son (14 when we go) and Daughter (9 when we go) are thinking of incorpating all our wishes for next years holiday.

We all want NYC, I want Vegas (for my 40th) and kids also want beach holiday.  So looking at options....

So firstly, Vegas for a few days.  I've been once back in '99, so lots changed no doubt.

Please help; Looking for people that have done this....

Can you do Vegas with kids of the above age, without them being very bored?

Anyone done this with their family?

We were there just over a week ago with a 9 year old and she loved it.  We were only there a couple of nights but didn't struggle for stuff to do.  You could visit the various casinos that offer a lot more than gaming - Circus Circus, Caesars, Venetian etc, there's a few of them that have outside shows at various points in the day.  There's also the M&M shop which is pretty big and could take a bit of time, plus there's other shopping centres that are worth a browse round.    There's the obvious things to do like take in a show or visit the Grand Canyon or you could just chill around the pool for a while.

It was mentioned in the Vegas thread about an outdoor type place that you can cycle in, a nature place that I can't remember off the top of my head but I'll try and find it, I think Simon mentioned it and it looked pretty good.  We'd have gone there if we had more time but had to miss it on this trip.  It looked a great family day out.  edit - http://www.springspreserve.org/ is the place.

I think for a few days, Vegas is great for families.  I think I'd struggle to find things for a week, but I'm sure even that would be ok, just chilling at the pool was good enough for my girl.

Perfect, thanks.  More of an option than I maybe first thought then.  By the pools always good, but wanted to see what else is available, and how strict the casinos were on U18's obviously actually in the casinos (other than not playing or watching the games naturally)

Spring-preserve looks a great alternative too.

No hassle at all walking around the casino.  We didn't wander amongst the tables, but you can certainly go inside them, there's a fair amount to do in most without gambling.

Just had it in my head, you couldn't really do it in that manner.  So another positive.

The rule is you can walk with kids down the paths through the gaming floor.

My eldest loves Vegas too (currently 5).  Shopping, Pool, Buffet is probably enough for her.  She loved the M and M shop and Circus, Circus.  There is a water park and a big trampoline place if you need it.  My kids aren't really big enough yet.  We did the Grand Canyon, but Red Rock Canyon is supposed to be good too.  It is a lot quieter.  We never went to Zion National Park, but am hoping to go there if we take the kids again.

Los Angeles isn't that far away, and we stayed in Santa Monica and near Disney if you want to do something just for the kids.  I'd recommend both.
