Title: Reddie, Steady, BET!
Post by: SuuPRlim on August 13, 2013, 10:07:34 AM
Hello Bonde!

Introducing Reddie, Steady, Bet! A sports betting + gambling podcast with a difference! With Analysis and discussion from Rick Trigg (action man) and Dave Shallow (Dubai) sharing their gambling exploits and experiences, and hosted by me, the friendly muggy punter!

Dave and Trigg's unique views and experiences in gambling are just hilarious to listen to, and whereas you might not get the sharpest advice ever, there will I'm sure be plenty of good stuff in there! It's gonna be a fun, honest re-view of everyone's favorite pastime!

Most importantly it should be a real laugh, episode 1 will be available to listen to on my website http://www.lildaveslife.com/ at approximately 9.30pm tonight :)

Topic's covered include the weekends GOLF, some tales from the betting shop, the peril of Australian cricket, and even some career advice for aspiring young sportsmen!

This is the first ever attempt, so all feedback would be very welcome!

Enjoy :)

sounds great

I love podcasts, and the better ones are the ones where the interaction is natural and banter follows.

I'm going to give week 3 an estimate of December 2013, week 5 April 2014, week 10 Feb 2020. Should be a lot of fun.

i came up with the idea as there is nothing im aware of on the market that gives honest and funny views of the sports betting world. We are looking to get guests on who are experts in a sport and start a tipping league on the podcast. LiLD plays a perfect role as achor and Shallow and I just spout off punting tales and try to give away some solid advice. We are open to all criticism so feel free, its a work in progress.

twitter is @reddiesteadybet

I will try my best to listen in! Is this live or am I being dumb and if can't listen in at 9.30 can you catch up later?

Nah it's not live and the first one was recorded Sunday which covers stuff that's obviously finished. In future there will be 2 a week, Monday nights and Friday nights which will preview and review the main action. Special one offs will
be done for specific sporting events that require their own preview. Will have different guests in every week whose area of expertise fits in nicely with the main component of each show, various tipping leagues- naps tables, and a premiership punting table will be included when each guest is asked for their best bets of the week/weekend

Really really enjoyed it, would def listen all the time

bit of feedback

1. If you are going to keep doing these, buy decent microphones

2. I loved the stories as much as the betting stuff

3. Im sure you will, but forward planning betting discussions clearly better than retrospective

4. Introduce segments  "triggs pony" (of the week) & dubais spin to Dubai (just something that people can look forward to, join in with , whatever, people like fixed segments)

But like I said, really loved it

First ten minutes obviosuly nervous and getting into flow...once you hit your stride and it was like were in trhe pub (for Trigg the Bryl Cream bit) it was quality.  I loved the discussion pieces and references to real life when in stride, both of you brilliant and the more "Id be playing pool not watching the game" tyep stuff has real appeal, making it sound like real life and appeals to audience.  The approach is not disimiar to Steve Palmers writing in the Post which has a real cult following - that is interestig for long term appeal, I may be able to get him on for you.

Production needs work as said - Mic, soundtrack, etc - take up Plenos offer

Even if you're in different locations, Id suggest you get visual skype on - you can see the visual cues and stop those few speaking over each other moments that are bound to happen.  Loved the "degen facebook references" ha ha

Dave held togther really well.  The three of you compliment each other well, sort of Northern monkey, Essex and posh northerner works

As a first effort I think its really impressive and you inow Id say if I didn't.  Good work

Really enjoyed this.

Can you get it onto Itunes? Easier to subscribe and download so we don't forget, can listen anywhere and will be more visible.

Can you aim to release the show as soon after recording as possible? Keeps it really current and relevant. Regularity is also really important obviously.

Maybe break it up with some features - review of recent bets, tips of the week, the newbie section e.g. introduction to spread betting, guest slots etc. A well structured podcast is generally an easier listen.

Saying that, I think really like the personal touches and banter, that's the key to keeping people downloading week after week. Its cool hearing about what your backing, stories from the betting shop, recent trips to sporting events, rants about brylcream...

I was impressed at what an easy and enjoyable listen it was for a first effort... looking forward to future installments.

Haven't listened all the way through yet so apologies if there's something similar to this already in it/it's not really what you're going for but...

As a mug punter something I'd be interested in would be a section you could call 'Ice Cream Clinic (or something similar). This would basically involve one of you explaining a tool you use to find value in a bet. So for instance if the week's focus was on a big golf tournament, you could steer us in the direction of a golf database so you can see players course history, driving stats etc. Or how to go about reading a greyhound card so we can try and spot value for ourselves.

Understand though that if teaching us fish to fish rather than just throwing us tasty fish isn't in your interests then this is all superfluous!

Get it uploaded on iTunes asap, its a massive source of traffic for podcasts and if there isn't much in the market like this you could clean up.

I'd also suggest getting a few guests with fanbases, so you can benefit from their audiences - Channing and Beevers spring to mind as they have their tipping thing.

Plus try and get it promoted on sites like UK PokerNews, The Hendon Mob etc. They are always crying out for free content and there is no conflict of interest here. I know they are poker sites, but you are all well known in UK poker so they would lap it up.

btw this guy is the man for podcasts, everything you need to know here: http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/how-to-start-a-podcast-podcasting-tutorial/

Just watched Owning Mahowny and thought it was pretty good. It definitely showcases just how detached from reality people become when they have addictions...

Shrink : How would you rate the thrill you got from gambling on a scale of 1-100?

Mahowny: 100

Shrink: What about the biggest thrill you've had outside gambling?

Mahowny: 20!

Did chuckle at  'For a number of years, the bank received a part of every dollar Mahowny earned'

Attachment of earnings to get their $10m back @ 5cents on the dollar :D

Brought podcast to the attention of Ted Hegarty's son Emmett, who also works the dog tracks here in Ireland. His verdict after listening to Clonmel yarn: "very good accurate description of the coursing".

Hi all,

I am listening now, can i just say i think 1 hour is far too long... 15 minutes seems perfect amount of time or maybe first 15 minutes talk about betting spots and last 15 storys ie. have a structure

Nice work for first attempt still, once mic gets sorted would be alot easier to listen to

Completely disagree, this isn't just a tipping service, giving out a list of bets. It's more entertaining than that. By cutting it down we would lose the stories & banter.

I agree. I think 30-40mins is the perfect length. Maybe 25 is ideal but problem is we all like the sounds of our own voices!! Once we organise the topics and structure a little better I think that will be the difference.

thanks for feedback everyone.

I don't really agree it is too long.  If anything there were a fair few topics I thought you could have covered but didn't (would have loved to have heard Dubai's thought on the athletics for example).  Besides you have to manage expectation in case you ever get Channing on there!  I suppose you could make it five minutes shorter if you cut Triggs "David Beckham appreciation corner" but it is sweet to hear about such an obvious man crush given time....;-)

Don't think its Bloom on Liverpool but more of a large fanbase in Asia/Britain. They were priced shorter than Spurs for the Prem. I just presumed it was the amount of hardcore fans. Really enjoying these but don't think the Premiership is the place to bet!

Pretty sure it is Bloom or Benham personally and possibly both as their models definitely have similarities.   The moves for them, another one this morning, come in the lumps that tend to signify a syndicate is playing where as if it was a general public sentiment it would be smoother.   I used to work with Tony and he does sometimes bet things that make no sense to me and can be quite stubborn about it but at the end of the day he has possibly made more money betting in the last twenty years than anyone else on earth so who am I to argue?

My bad. Seems strange how its been going on for so long now. Pretty interesting because the Liverpool team has to have changed and different managers etc.

Dubai touched on the reasons why in the podcast.  Their models weight certain factors more heavily than others and this obviously works very well for them but there are certain spots where they overrate teams and this seems to be one.  I don't know the exact factors but I do know that they use shots and shots on target a lot and there was an idea knocking about last year they were significantly more wasteful with shots than any other team and took shots from bad areas so that stat was overrated by them.   Although based on that first half they are definitely value for this lead.....seem to be moving the ball around wonderfully.

The key to models is to understand when they don't work and if you can do that you can make money these days because a lot of firms use them too and use them religiously without thinking if their assumptions run true.

Total opposite of this in the second half.

theres a lot of rules cant bet on games in the same competition as your club and all kind of things.

does bloom mostly do the premier league if brighton ever get there would cause him some hassle

No.  He bets in pretty much every league in the world.  Matthew Benham (who owns Brentford) is pretty much the same.  They are both totally open about what they do for a living so I guess they must have some arrangement if those are the rules but I was under the impression it was just their games they couldnt bet on.

It is.

In England, Players and club officials are allowed to bet on any match, even in their division, except their own games

As we have seen in Scotland in the Ian Black case, things are abit murkier

Well I know several footballers who routinely bet their division on any given game day, in large amounts.

assume the fa wont give a toss unless the players are bragging on twitter about it

good work with the bookings bet. Definitely was very lenient in the early stages although the game was a little bit more niggley than predicted.

Finally had a chance to listen to a podcast, great stuff.

Brent should be a reg feature or at least special for the slams imo.

"thanks for the spoiler" made me lolz as did the 9* NAP on Newcastle.

GL with this weekend's bets.

The overs on the time of the first card is a really good spot.

I'm convinced the refs have been told to keep their cards in their pockets early in these big games.

In years past I'm sure the Giggs challenge on about 18 minutes would have been a yellow and I wouldn't have complained about it had it been brandished.

Took Cleverley to nearly break a leg before Marriner got the yellow out.
