Title: Bluffcatching? Post by: tight4better on August 15, 2013, 08:13:58 PM 1/2 at Manchester G, I've only been around 2 orbits, 2 hands played both win with cbet on flop, villain is 50+ and without meaning to seem harsh doesn't seem very good, limps 94o OTB and generally being pretty passive. He covers me I have around £650
Straddle is on, villain limps MP we £22 with Tc Td next to act, folds to villain who calls. Ahrt Ts 7s He check calls £36 3h He tanks for 30 secs, rechecks cards and calls £78 8h Rechecks again, donks £117. Seems like I can't beat a lot of his leading range on this river, but I have no idea if he limps strong or overplays AT/A3/T8 at this point, never a bluff imo but obviously I can still beat quite a chunk. Feels like I'm bluffcatching when he can't have any realistic bluffs. Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: stato_1 on August 15, 2013, 11:28:47 PM Seems like a fairly trivial call. You beat a bunch of two pair hands, sets, and missed draws.
I think raising for value is better than folding Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: dwayne110 on August 15, 2013, 11:38:24 PM Spot on from Stato... just as likely to donk with a busted FD as hitting backdoor hearts imo, not to mention the host of hands you beat and the fact you've highlighted he isn't very good!
Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: nirvana on August 15, 2013, 11:47:19 PM I can only think of about 3 hands he could plausibly have called pre, flop & turn with that can beat you now.
I'm obviously a tournament expert rather than cash but it's a call for me and then call the bollock search squad for not raising Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: theprawnidentity on August 15, 2013, 11:49:54 PM I'm obviously a tournament expert rather than cash Just for clarity, I'm an expert in neither!!! Title: Re: Bluffcatching? If bros come up in here all angry and saying other stuff, I can just hide behind him and let him defend. Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: tight4better on August 16, 2013, 02:29:43 AM Wow pretty surprised at the responses here, thought it was a lot closer but obviously not.
Anyway, wasn't very happy about calling and saw a hand that made sense Jh 9h Cheers guys. Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: pleno1 on August 16, 2013, 05:22:13 AM Disagree with Stato ad think folding is definitely better than raising for value. Think he is polarised between missed draws as bd completed draws.
Also think we should size Turn a little bigger, around 94ish Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: Nit Tendencies on August 16, 2013, 04:50:12 PM I disagree with Stato about the raise for value thing, pretty sure that's suicide, but I also disagree with Pleno (I know right, controversial) in that he's polarised. He can very feasibly have turned or rivered two pair which he's leading as a blocker/value so he doesn't have to call a gigantic bet/so he can "find out where he is".
Call and don't beat yourself up about the result. Although live poker is more about specific reads than the young internet kids like to think it is, it is a balance between that and your more traditional good range based poker. Shake it off and if that situation ever comes up again, call again :) Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: pleno1 on August 16, 2013, 05:17:34 PM he could have 2 combos of 87s but he prob doesnrt have too many 2 pair combos (we block t8s)
but we mean and think the same thing i think. he actually probably folds 87s ott i think so v few combos. in fact he probly just has it Title: Re: Bluffcatching? I really don't play like an internet kid haha. Ask anyone. I just didn't want to go into massive paragraphs for a PHA as it's normally TL:DR Title: Re: Bluffcatching? Post by: wazz on August 16, 2013, 11:33:35 PM You could fold this against some guys live, but it's the sort of guy you need to have logged a few hundred hours of seeing him chase and only bet the river with strong hands. I snap this against like 99.9% of opponents.
I'd bet both flop and turn bigger. |
