Title: Re: Phonebloks join the Movement Post by: scotty77 on September 19, 2013, 02:23:26 AM Cool thing but the main issue is that people actually love getting a new phone and playing with it.
The queues outside an Apple store on launch day etc. Can see it having a market tho, but not because people are interested in saving the planet, but more because it will be a talking point down the pub! I hope it catches on.. Title: Re: Phonebloks join the Movement Post by: Ironside on September 19, 2013, 03:16:40 PM I really like it and everytime an upgrade of certain part is available you will get rush to get it and I might get a battery that lasts longer than 6 hours

I've had the same HTC Desire since it first came out 3 years ago and it's only my 4th mobile phone since 1996. I definitely don't feel the need to rush to the shops every time something new comes out and would LOVE the option to replace/upgrade parts on an old one. Not because I'm trying to save the planet as such, just don't see the need to get a new one when I can get by fine with the one I have. Pity, because it's unlikely this will ever take off. Title: Re: Phonebloks join the Movement Post by: BangBang on September 19, 2013, 05:06:19 PM I definitely think this will happen, maybe not in the next two years but will happen, maybe if they concentrate on emerging markets they'll see a higher volume of customers adopting this approach.
The mobile phone companies will have to do something to increase revenue soon (even though data has increased revenues for them) when upgrading depending on your monthly spend, you're given a budget towards a new phone, which really squeezes the profit margins for mobile phone operators, something like this will help them increase profits while keeping their customers happy. Also when you're talking about having a shiny new phone to play with, you're talking about maybe new software features and some hardware features like better battery, better camera etc, this approach will still allow you to have all this while giving it to you in a more sustainable way. Overall I think this is the future, with the introduction of wearables' we'll be taking our phone out less and using the Wearable as a proxy, so phonebloks is definitely the way to go.. |
