Title: vs firaldo, gimme a reason to fold
Post by: pleno1 on September 21, 2013, 08:19:27 PM
Firaldo opens utg at 60-120 to 300, i peel big blind with 8h7h

Flop

Th 9c 8d

I check, he checks back

2c ott, I check call 405 into 700

River Jh

I check

He bets 2100 into 1600.

I tank folded. Anybody calls? Help me get to the level to why he bets so much? Only history we have is that he 5b,7b or 4b,6b 44 deep in a soft tournament.

This is a ftops 215 2 day thing.

Who is Firaldo? If he's any good or aggro then I just fold pre, something I'm working on and perhaps is wrong but I find being OOP vs decent players with marginal hands doesn't work too well for me.

Anyway, this confuses me and because he's bet so big I probably just fold the river. Terrible reasoning but if he's bluffing then congratulations to him.

He's good but he's no Geraldo

Folding pre would be terrible. One of the biggest leaks that mtt players have (I was definitely guilty of this when I used to reg) is passing up on great prices with the correct parts of our range in fear of getting outplayed.

I'm not sure about this spot tbh, because we don't have many Qx at all when we check/call the turn. Maybe he thinks we won't fold 7x and I guess he can give us 4 combos of 79s, 78s, 67s and maybe 4 of J7s too which can all feasibly check/call the turn. Seems weird though. I used to play with him quite a lot and he's a mate of mine, and he is pretty aggro/creative, with a game that I rate.

I'm struggling to figure out this hand though. I'll have a think and maybe post later.

Ok, I'm glad you think that folding is terrible. I was always peely in these spots vs anyone but I just wasn't sure exactly how good calling is here.

never Q9/Q8/QT?

I guess if we never have a Q then we should call right?

You don't have KQ in your range he does, your capped, he's uncapped so perfect spot to apply maximum pressure.
