Title: Chip denominations. Post by: celtic on October 12, 2013, 06:27:55 PM At what point in a comp, with no antes, do you remove the 100 chips?
Same question for a comp where the minimum ante is 100, and goes up in increments if 100. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: Tal on October 12, 2013, 06:33:10 PM Suspect this is a loaded question...
I'll bite... When you don't need those chips any longer, although usually done at the next break. So, 1000/2000 if no antes would be the most likely. Has this not happened, then? Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: celtic on October 12, 2013, 06:38:10 PM No, nothing hidden, just wanted some views.
Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: Karabiner on October 12, 2013, 06:38:30 PM Doesn't it depend on whether Marcel Luske has a big stack?
Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: Tal on October 12, 2013, 06:40:26 PM Should clarify my answer by saying 1000/2000 in comps where the blinds then go 1500/3000 and so on

Post by: 77dave on October 12, 2013, 09:23:33 PM When the blinds are 1k/2k players should be able to raise to 4200 or 4400 if they wish rather than be forced to raise to 4500 due to available chips on the table.
Floor can colour up if needed but no need for a chip race. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: Cf on October 13, 2013, 03:35:19 PM I do like the idea of leaving some chips on the table but to take it to a ridiculous level there's no need to have 25s on the table when the blinds have reached 1m/2m.
Just take them off when they're not needed imo. As long as there is an ante they should stay on long enough. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: relaedgc on October 13, 2013, 04:56:13 PM You did this at GUKPT Brighton, remember, and most people said they disagreed with you.
I don't take them off out of spite. It's just not necessary. I do see that you have a point. I am not oblivious to where you are coming from, I just don't believe it is necessary. You have to adapt to the level change. Personally, for someone that is very reasonable, this issue makes you very antagonistic. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: cambridgealex on October 13, 2013, 05:08:01 PM What reason is there for leaving unnecessary small chip denominations on the table?
Surely this Just take them off when they're not needed imo. As long as there is an ante they should stay on long enough. Title: Re: Chip denominations. A question that, given the replies so far, is gonna prove me wrong. I haven't mentioned which card room I think this is a problem in, and I haven't tried to sway anyone into agreeing with me. I do however think its a problem, albeit not a massive one, that certain denomination chips are removed when they are. I'm not the only one that thinks it, but I am probably the only one that mentions it. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: relaedgc on October 13, 2013, 06:11:54 PM Sorry.
I meant to say that I am ill equipped to understand your point; as it is beyond my level of poker comprehension. With my inadequate understanding of the game, I struggle to see your side of the argument. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: Cf on October 13, 2013, 06:16:27 PM My main issue is when card rooms change chips up when they don't need to. To me it feels like whenever it's break time TDs and staff swoop down upon the tables like vultures to make change and it really really winds me up.
I like having a big stack with lots of chips. By all means change up the 100s which aren't needed anymore but leave my 500 and 1000s alone. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: nirvana on October 13, 2013, 10:25:41 PM Great thread bro

Post by: gouty on October 14, 2013, 02:13:15 AM Our local have gone the other way now and leave them in longer and it's a much better game. We have lots of once a week players and it's great to make big stacks and enjoy the feeling of raking a massive pot in, or insta raising next hand whilst still stacking your last pot into your stack.
It's FUN. Title: Re: Chip denominations. Post by: theprawnidentity on October 14, 2013, 09:44:35 AM If you take all the chips off the table, how are you supposed to make #demtowers

We chipped up the unnecessary chips after they became defunct. Moral of the story? Title: Re: Chip denominations.
