Title: i think this is what young guys call a merge
Post by: pleno1 on October 16, 2013, 09:11:03 PM
villain is 21-10 passive fish, think on river he calls aq sometimes and folds ak sometimes.

It was a question though. Do we think its ok?

Not really sure we get looked up by worse TBH.  Unless we have notes that the villain is opening EP wider than normal and cant fold some Ax's then I probably just check behind.  Not sure that we get AK to fold / AQ to call enough.

Unless he's the kind of thinking player who expects to do this with nuts or air then its probably just a waste of a great idea.

Check?!?!

Dont really understand why you're saying this? I mean in the OP you say he could fold AK sometimes... so clearly it's thin if you want to get called by worse, thus checking can't be a ridiculous suggestion.

yeah but betting 1-3rd pot has to be better than checking. i guess this was the point of the thread, is merging best in this spot or not.

Maybe if you don't really ever think your getting looked up by worse it is just better to bet 30%-40% and try and get called by his Ax or hero called by worse?

That's what I was trying to ask in the thread. ATM I was like lol lets be cool and merge but then after I had some doubts.

Seems like getting him to fold AK sometimes and calling with AQ a small amount of the time is outweighed by the times he has AT/AJ/Q9s/KQ/TJ etc and you lose way more than by betting 1/3 or 40% pot or whatever.

He 4xd pre flop so he's weighted a lot more to ak/aq than the other hands you mentioned.

Assume he will keep betting hands that beat us with the unlikely chance of q9s that he will play different pre.
