Title: Home wifi help
Post by: david3103 on October 18, 2013, 11:16:42 AM
My TP Link router has stopped doing what it should

The laptop and tablets etc all connect to it but it isn't connecting to the internet.
If I connect the laptop direct to the cable feed that works fine.

I've TIOATIOA more than once in various sequences

and made sure that it's set for Dynamic IP

anyone?

This sometimes happened with me and it was because the router had forgot my ISP Settings / Password (for no reason).

Open the web browser and type the IP address of the device in the address bar (it is usually 192.168.1.1). Press Enter.

Type in the default username / password you have to get in to the settings and just check that everything is all present and correct.  If not, ring your ISP and go apeshit imo.

I can get to the page to see settings but

No you're right, they wont care if it isn't their router.  Just make sure your ISP username and password are typed in correctly.  It could just be that the net is down for some other reason.  If it hasn't been down 24 hours then it could be cause of some fault / maintenance work?

Right, so if you use a laptop, you say it connects. What happens? Can you see the wireless network in the list of networks? Do you get "wifi bars" of signal? Does it get an IP address?

Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again?

Your router is knackered. It is a software problem. Try either a) factory reset on router b) upgrading router firmware, or, best of all c) throwing it away and buying another one for £10 on eBay.

Or maybe it could be a settings problem on the router, maybe there is some kind of firewall or other nonsense. But if it worked before and you haven't changed anything, I still think c) is the best play.

Go on Ebay before you throw the router away.

No need to thank me.
