Execution by cannon, in Shiraz, Iran, Mid-Late 1800s http://t.co/4rbaH7SbuM Title: Re: Truly gobsmacked- photo Post by: BorntoBubble on October 28, 2013, 03:31:49 PM Looks like the worst way to kill someone IMO what's the point? Seems like a lot of effort to tie someone to the right place then make sure no one is behind the cannon etc just put them in a pit with lions

Link above to the rest of the series, the blog seems interesting, didn't realise the extent of some of the harshness still happening to this very day. Made me feel physically sick. Title: Re: Truly gobsmacked- photo Post by: BorntoBubble on October 30, 2013, 12:57:46 AM What i never understand/stood about hangings is why people go to watch. Seeing a dead body is the most horrifying thing in the world why would you choose to go see someone be killed no matter how much of a bad person they are?

Spelling and grammar in the thread? you're right, missing an 's' out of compassion is unforgivable. Don't know how I live with myself. It's ok, you'll get over it with time ;-) My apologies. My mates and I are in the middle of a pedantic spelling and grammar war at the moment on another thread elsewhere. It's spilling into other areas of my life and you appear to be an innocent caught in the crossfire! Are spaces either side wrong? I always thought so, it seems to defeat the purpose, but old man Red insists on it, he even alters mine. I've resisted contradicting him as yet, even though I know he's guess is probably as good as mine. But, if I had someone to back me up.............. Your Dad is wrong, but he'll not admit it, ever, he never does. Hi Teeks. I was going to ignore that hilarious greeting, but it got me thinking that actually, we would only use 'Aunty' to address our real aunts, if we bothered with any prefix at all. Strange that, never really occurred to me till now. Just another one of those tiny little customs that different cultures have which mean nothing and everthing at the same time. Anyhoo, thanks for chipping in to tell me dad was wrong. I can always count on you! P.S. Everytime I think of you reading my posts I just know your playing exclamation mark/brackets/italics bingo. #paranoia? Your Dad is wrong, but he'll not admit it, ever, he never does. So it's bread/butter and not bread / butter? Bread & butter, expressed as bread/butter, with or without spaces, has got nothing to do with the discussion at all. The slash indicates an alternative of the same thing. Bread is not an alternative to butter. Bread & butter are different things, not alternatives to each other. I had a sausage sandwich with red/brown sauce, for example, is perfectly correct. I had a sausage sandwich with bread/butter is just daft. Aunty Daughter is correct. In fact it could even be Aunty/Daughter. Uncle Dad is wrong, however expressed. He always is, but never admits it. He is argumentative/stubborn, with or without spaces. Title: Re: Truly gobsmacked- photo Post by: RED-DOG on October 31, 2013, 12:10:42 PM Oh no! They're ganging up on me.

By the same token, you could argue that one execution pales insignificance when you consider the genocides where millions were, and for that matter still are being murdered. Certainly not a dig at anyone. :) Title: Re: Truly gobsmacked- photo Post by: Redsgirl on October 31, 2013, 02:01:49 PM Sigh. Perhaps i should have put this ;) at the end of my sentence. If you're going to have a sausage sandwich in the future you could have red/brown sauce but if you've already had one why would you list the alternatives you could have? Spaces are obviously incorrect though so carry on.
Title: Re: Truly gobsmacked- photo Post by: Dino on November 01, 2013, 06:32:03 AM "I had a sausage sandwich with red/brown sauce" is so obviously wrong, it should be "I had a sausage sandwich with Branston pickle".
