Im really struggling to think of a url to use for my new poker site that will be a now profitable site that will have blogs from myself, free strategy content, free podcasts and interviews with players.

Really really struggling to think of a URL, any helps-suggestions?

All of those are not very good, Patrick.

If the site is about Poker and Strategy, then you need to combine the two. Plus if you are thinking of this as a profitable venture, then the domain name really needs to click & the domain name and business can be worth something in a few years.

No personal ideas, but I would ditch every last one of those.

I'd go with backdoorsuckout.com and cash in on two lots of traffic.

im not trying to monetize it yet or maybe at all, a cool name more important for me. If I was going for huge seo great name id go for the pokerstrategy.com approach but im looking more at legopoker, decuescracked, runitonce etc.

Two basic choices: you either want a name that tells the reader what you do

Or a name that doesn't do that but has a bit of pizzazz, like the ones you have already.

What are you after, from a marketing point of view?

You've said it is for strategy, I think there is more to this website that meets the eye, hence why you have not gone for simple name, etc.

Tal's recc's are good, I would probably think for different words to associate with strategy, or perhaps "strat", or analysis, etc, etc.

some kind of chess related pun or something?

Domain is pretty much irrelevant in terms of SEO. Since Google's algorithm and search infrastructure changes over the past two years I've even seen sights penalised for being an 'exact match domain'.

Go for something short and unique (non-dictionary ideally), with the equivalent twitter account available, etc., and ideally a domain that is available as the .com, .co.uk, and any other markets you're hoping to target.

It really isn't a very common term.  I did a quick search on here, and the only people who have used it are you, Adam and one other.  Don't know if you are all in the same skype group.

i think it will catch on, i wanted a word that was nothing about poker but was very remberable, i didnt want any kind of standard poker term like 3betjam.com and those kind of stuff, more of a name that nobody would ever really use.

I can understand why you dont like it though ofc. Lots of Ws too. I think theres enough room to work around it though, especially as all the stuff that ill be doing for free will be about "Whats your opinion" - podcasts "Who are you" - in the tank interviews and "What should I do- Whats the best line" free content.

But I didnt expect people to fall in love with it immediately, if people like the content and they remember the name thats enough for me, obviously its the one word i use more than anything else so has abit of me associated with it too.

Showed a couple of people the site so far and had mostly positive feedback with some suggestions that is great. If anybody had 30 seconds of time to look at something and give me their first impression pm me and Ill send you and see what you think. Being brutally honest is perfect ofc.

I think its pretty good, at the end of the day a good brand name does not have to have recognised keywords in it, the brand becomes the brand from having good content etc and then as it naturally becomes popular it starts to sound good, not because it is a good name but because you have now become a recognised brand with in the field your content is about.

Google = Search Engine

Asos = Clothing Website

WugWug = Poker Strategy

Create good content and it will be a success.
