Title: AK early.
Post by: celtic on November 04, 2013, 08:37:46 PM
This could be really trivial, but would like views please.

£300 deepstack at the weekend.

50/100, I raise to 300 from utg+1. Guy two to my right calls. Rana Gurnam? Welsh guy, 50ish maybe. (I'm fairly sure it's him) 3 bets to 1700 from mid position.

Only been playing 5 mins, and never really played with him before. Just before this hand I 3 bet AA from an early open of 250 to 600 and he peeled ak from the small blind, and check called turn and river bets on a king high board.

I'm playing 31k. He has around 26k.

What's best to do?

Just fold. His range is going to be really tight, you are out of position and playing really deep.

Plus he's come all the way from Wales, that's a bloody long drive! Might wanna jam and get him to fold his Aces  ;D

Thoughts on calling? Or 3 betting?

A 3bet has already been made so I assume you mean 4betting.

Firstly, you have to look at the 50 year old Welsh man's range to 3bet to 1700 after an UTG open and peel. Assuming he fits the bill his range is stronger than AKo. That kinda means AKo+ QQ+ maybe Jacks 'if he don't like 'em'. AK just plays rubbish because you can't play aggressively when you flop anything anyway and he might have aces and kings anyway. If he also has AK he will probably just win the pot anyway.

If you had deuces here it would be better to peel here (fold vs such a huge 3bet here though) because 7/8ths of the time you can just bin them post flop and the other times you can flop a set and maybe win a few chips.

Peel or fold are pretty close. Hard to think we dont have a positive expectation with a hand as strong as AK, but it may be the case.

For the record, I folded. Did consider all options though.

Thanks all.

Never folding vs Rana. Dont really think we can go all-in so I'm calling. I think he might squeeze a load of Ax/Kx stuff so deece implied odds imo... not to mention he attacks A and K high boards obviously

If this Rana chap likes to get fruity then I agree with lil dave

The thing is, I don't know if he does. The only info I have is he flats ak to a 3bet and check calls a k high board.

Given only the info bolded i'd fold and wouldn't think it's that close, but anything to show he could be doing this any wider than QQ+, AK then i'd be peeling and be v.happy about it.

Nah. It was on my first table. I got moved within a couple of hands to your table.

We really 4 bet/ get 300 bigs in here?

Probably agree if he's playing that strategy above, but as far as I know, he's not. He's just sat down. Peeled a 3bet with ak, and check called 2 streets.

A few hands later, with no dc game started as far as I know, is he gonna start going ballistic win any 2 here?

obv getting in 300bb with no pair is going to be a mistake

obv getting in 300bb with no pair is going to be a mistake

You make it sound so clinical.

I think if you're this big and someone is looking to bash you up then you have a pretty good hand to defend with. AK flops fairly well this deep even OOP because we are so deep. If you flop a pair then you can just let him take the lead and hopefully barrel you because he thinks A or K high boards are going to be difficult for you to defend.

Anyway, this hand was nailed on the first page. Peel pre usually but vs some nittier people who have a clue I prob just fold.

Read the rest of the thread, earlier I said just fold pre because it's not a great spot and then lil dave piped up and said that the guy 3betting can be pretty mental (he implied it anyway).

Is this a level? You fold AK pre to average punter?

AKsuited, still folding despite monster sizing?

finding it difficult to fold, if 30k stacks 3200-fold? probably terrible.
