Title: Price for no flight to Vegas
Post by: pleno1 on November 07, 2013, 04:58:06 PM
Ok friend and I are debating something.

If you could avoid the whole flight to Vegas having to wait around and be jet lagged etc and instead could go to sleep in the uk and wake up in Vegas in the morning how much would you pay?

We're assuming a trip that has one stop and if we don't do it we have to pay 1k for the air fare.

How high would you go?

£3.5k

Probably pay a monkey more, but flights don't really bother me, and I'm lucky enough to not suffer jet lag.

I like travelling to places, not really bothered how long it takes, so long as it does not eat into my holiday time (unless I fly from brize norton and you can delay me months). As for returning, now I am willing to spend good money.

The flight is a bit of a pain, but it's all part of the whole thing really. If Vegas were a 20 minute cab ride away, the appeal would be far less.

Me, I'd try & get there if I had to go by boat, I genuinely would.

Bit like sex, the journey is part of the fun. The journey home, not so much.

Even if I look at the journey as a days work, and the following recuperation day as a second days work, and factor in the fact that I am happy to work for £100 a day, I wouldn't pay more than £200 or so extra.

Really not much more, I like the ritual of a few beers at the airport, watch couple of films, kip and your are nearly there.

I think a better question would be, if flights did not exist how would you get there? Maybe Vegas is not the best example for this Q, I remember we had a fun time talking about this in regards to south east asia with a bunch of travel buddies. It ended up with me sussing out a whole trip I want to do in future via ferry, train and bus etc.

Edit- I've never paid £1k to vegas in my life so nothing more lol

I am a bit of a nit so I will say whatever my hourly is x20 (assuming you are talking about a return flight). I quite like the stress of getting to Vegas because it makes it all the more worthwhile when you arrive!

Like Tikay said, and I've discussed this before, if Vegas was say a 1 hour flight away it'd feel a lot less appealing to say the least.

Thing is you can do return at the moment in upper and get change from £2k on select dates. You get a bed so its basically the same thing, although its better as you get some bird bringing you drinks and food to the bed who doesnt expect you to cuddle her or traipse around some shit art gallery.

All of this.

I see the travel arrangements as part of the whole experience really.

I dunno if BA do this but during my more lavish times I'd go to the airport and ask for an upgrade on the day. It used to be £600 extra to fly club world one way or $900. Booking in advance, club world is really expensive imo.

Yeah its always worth talking to the check in people really nicely.

Last couple of years I've managed to get a few free upgrades to premium, entire row to myself and also on a trip to New York with BA first class for the price of premium.

The change in pressure really really fucks with my ears and it sometimes takes days for it to get back to normal tho so for a trip to Vegas I'd easily pay treble to avoid that tho.
