Disappointed that because of couple of jealous people not being included
And complained .... There is no advent calendar this year I looked forward to reading it and I thought it made a great addition to blonde for 25 days )-:

Yeah, plus it would get people in the rail, but you can understand why it has been removed with the bitterness of certain members.

I am also disappointed. Must be an alternative we can come up with?

Nah. Been done and all the best people have been selected.

There might be half a dozen or so names left you'd include without hesitation, but you don't want to be scratching around for a few towards the end. Plus, if you didn't make the 48, think how bad you'd feel if you didn't make the 72...

Thinking about it, most people who have been banned at some point, were included in the advent calendar over the two years.

Not sure why it needs to completely revolve around people.  I would have thought it could be a great review of the year on Blonde, reminding existing members of the good times in 2013 and giving new members a great snapshot of what Blonde is all about.  Perhaps that is highlighting certain people or threads or an update photo or tournament successes or the Blonde community helping when a member posts a problem.

Only needs a bunch of people to agree to take a few 'doors' each, and away you go, post up some pics, links, videos, whatever it may be.  I'm sure for those that don't necessarily have time to read most of what's on Blonde, it would be a must read thread.

It makes me laugh so much how offended people get at who gets chosen.

The advent calender is a bit of fun, and a bit of recognition for people who have done things for not only Blonde, but Poker as a whole.

Tighty puts the work in, Tighty spends time writing the posts, why shouldnt he decide who gets a door.

Honestly, there arent many people who could be as accurate and unbias anyway. Even a vote system is flawed, because Im sure I could get myself on the list through voting and I havent done anything significant for Poker/Blonde.

yeah i was probably childish and bitter about not being in top 50 on blonde, apologies about that and wouldnt expect to be in tightys next 24 or complain about not being in either.

i suggested if they were scraping the barrel to put no duplicates in then it would perhaps not be so good. if newcastle win the league and Shola is top scorer this season and he is in the advent calender and then the same next season he would be in too. I think lildave was the only person to be a duplicate in the 2 years.

As a long time lurker/part time poster, I really enjoyed reading both Advent calendar threads.  However this back and forth seems somewhat pointless.  For some reason last year's thread got a negative reaction from some quarters.  I have no idea if this was the reason Tighty hasn't done one this year, he might not have the time, he might not want to, I'm not in his mind and neither is anyone else.

I don't think it was ever written in stone it would be an annual event and anyway, it might do the concept good to be rested for a year.  It allows potential candidates to build up and with further years further reasons for duplicates to occur.

Happy to administrate or whatever, I think a select panel which changes every year could well work for awards or a calendar.

My thinking is 4 people who cover different aspects of forum life:

Me - I read every single post on the entire forum and try to avoid being labelled as being in a clique
Pleno - in with all the young guns and up to date on all online things poker
Boshi - voice of reason, behind the scenes bod
David Amos - old man's view, has a presence in everywhere 

Obv Tighty is pretty much all these in one but this would help to share the workload. Panel is just like X factor, baggsie Nicole! Think of us as mods but less bias. oooooh, oh no he didn't.

We did do an awards thread pre the advent calendar, so why not?

It was not just the negativity during it, there followed months of repeated dummy-spitting & arsey comments by some regulars about those included or excluded. These comments slightly missed the point of the exercise, of course. It's no big deal, but hardly likely to encourage Tighty to do it again.

Tighty worked very hard on the whole thing, & it was written so beautifully & cleverly, but there's not a lot of point if it results in curly lips & repeated snide comments for months afterwards. The idea was to help strengthen the Community, not divide it.

It rather suggests the whole idea of the thing was not quite grasped by some.

We get out of forums like this what we put into them.

More time was spent Moderating the thread than enough, & subsequent comments over 4 or 5 months, so Tighty just said he would not bother in future.  It's rather a shame, I think, but I don't blame him. It's odd really, because, as was evident in the "Tighty's Tourney", he is, officially, a hero here now. This week, anyway.

It's not mentioned on the forum much, if at all nowadays, but as far as I know the blonde hall of fame is still open to anyone to nominate any other member for inclusion (i've nominated a couple myself in the past :)). Always a good vibe around when there was a new entrant, and not restricted to xmas time.

disagree anyway, the way they've been done in the past is that a list of categories have been posted and everyone has given their own answers - so very individual, often with very different answers, and pretty much the opposite of a popularity contest.

Just seems like a really odd thing for a bunch of grown men to be whittling about. Never quite understood why people get so miffed at free stuff that's just a bit of fun. I just really enjoyed Tighty's write ups and I learned a thing or two about other members, never really saw it as a ranking system.

Of course I am a proud 2011 inductee so I'm probably a bit biased.

Amen. I remember last year Aaron was one of the advent calenders and it caused some controversy. Aaron was a good poster and made a lot of discussions/caused some arguments and it's what forums need. Because some people thought he was a bit of a wanker meant that it all went tits up.
