Title: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: jjandellis on January 03, 2014, 02:24:13 AM OK so now voting for the 2 greatest centre backs.
Due to voting for 2 positions I've given everyone 2 votes. Would be nice if people could vote for TWO centre backs and not pile both one one...please :-) As we're voting for 2 CB and 2 reserve CB I've doubled the poll to a whopping 20 players. Again, these are the 20 most capped central defenders/centre backs/centre half... As normal expect a few sniggers and 'whattttssssss' about some modern CB's making the list. As usual it seems the modern game awards more caps! Ty rotflmfao rotflmfao The list of candidates highlights the lack of world class talent England has had in this position. Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: Tal on January 07, 2014, 01:02:02 PM I'm not sure how this happened, but there's a competition and, despite not being one of the candidates, I'm pretty sure Camel just won.
Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: TightEnd on January 07, 2014, 01:14:08 PM Not sure how this cannot be Bobby Moore and Billy Wright
Presumably as with other categories the fact no one saw or knows enough about Wright to vote for him gives the voting a recency bias that invalidates the results Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: Tal on January 07, 2014, 01:28:49 PM Adams is one of the few world class players England have produced in the last thirty years.
That isn't easy for me to say. Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: Kmac84 on January 07, 2014, 01:45:08 PM Much of this will come down to the age of the voters though.
I never voted for JT I don't think he's that good, average at best. But I don't understand how people can vote players they never saw in the flesh. I never voted for JT I don't think he's that good, average at best. But I don't understand how people can vote players they never saw in the flesh. I'd like to think I have a decent, albeit limited football knowledge, but I don't know the following: Billy Wright David Watson Emlyn Hughes (know who he is but no nothing of his ability or have ever seen him kick a ball) Phil Thompson (know who he is but no nothing of his ability or have ever seen him kick a ball) Roy McFarland Neil Franklin Colin Todd (know who he is but no nothing of his ability or have ever seen him kick a ball) Billy Wedlock Brian Labone So I didn't bother voting as I can't make an educated vote. Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: MintTrav on January 07, 2014, 04:47:19 PM Maybe it would have been helpful for the OP to give a few details on each, to give the olden-day players some chance.
Just one who won't be picked - Dave Watson. 65 caps, even though he didn't play for England til he was nearly 28. His dominance in his position is reflected in that he played in every England match for five years. Before all that, he was Man of the Match when Sunderland beat Leeds in the Cup Final. Once swerved a game for his club with injury and turned up for England a few days later. Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: horseplayer on January 07, 2014, 07:54:11 PM Campbell was excellent for England especially in major tournaments which should carry more favour
Having never seen Billy Wright i am very unlikely to vote for him to go alongside B Moore who i was lucky enough to be forcefed videos of as a kid Title: Re: Blonde Greatest XI (Centre Back) Post by: ruud on January 07, 2014, 08:13:13 PM Haven't been in this area of the forum for a while....
Just wanted to say this is a great idea for a thread. Also, Adams might be the best centre half I've ever watched, and I'm a United fan. Absolute class. |
