Title: Legendary Kids TV....
Post by: The Baron on January 24, 2006, 11:38:52 PM
I'm having a disagreement with two mates over the greatest kids TV programmes of all time.

We've picked about 2 or 3 each, which I wont mention yet, and we all think our choices are better than each others.

What are your picks?

Baron when you say kids , kids who are 4-5-6 or 13-14-15 im now 28

Blue Peter must be up there not a favourite of mine.

when I was 4-8 I used to watch Rainbow, Button Moon, Tiswas, Wacaday (timmy Mallet guy) Thomas the Tank

And after that it was Power Rangers, Byker Grove and Debbie does Dallas

Has to be Thundercats, Original He-Man and Dangermouse.  The only famous kids TV personality I have met is Glenn Michael. You know the guy from " Glenn Michaels Cavalcade". He used to shop at my local ASDA. Actually I am not sure if he is still around, if he is he must be about 80 years old now. I have his autograph somewhere.

Knightmare - for the simple reason that any show that's shown at 4.45pm for kids, and has a computer graphics version of a head slowly losing all of it's skin and then bits of the skull to leave just the eyeballs must be truly awesome.

That and Lord Fear.

Mr Ben - Because he was blatantly tripping on acid.

Futurama - Not a kids show I know, but I might never get another place to voice the sheer brilliance of it.

Pingu - Do I need a reason? No, didn't think so.

That skull used to scare the bejesus out of me as a little kid.

Good job it was on in the afternoon and not in the evening, lest it start a bed wetting frenzy.

Ok...going to have to cheat a little and do some genre grouping here! ;D

Trumpton / Camberwick Green

Amazing how much of these two programmes is still firmly lodged in my brain over 30 years later such as "here is a box...a musical box, wound up and ready to play!" and  "riding along in an army truck". Not to mention the correct sequence of those bloody firemen coming down the pole every episode...lol   Not that they ever put out a single a fire of course, it was always retrieving the mayor's hat from up a tree or something similar!!

Rather sadly I can still do a great impression of the noise of Windy Miller's windmill too!!  rotflmfao

Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet/Joe 90/Stingray

That'd be anything involving Gerry Anderson then??  er......yeah.........okay Troy!  And what a babe that Aqua Marina was!  :-*

Tiswas

Swapshop was ok...but real kids preferred Tiswas!! So much fun and mayhem......... Chris Tarrant, Sally James, Trevor McDonought, Phantom Flan Flinger, The Cage, Spit the Dog, Bucket of Water Song..........the list is endless.......not forgetting my favourite Compost Corner.........COMPOST CORNER!!!!!!!!!!

Best I go for a lie down now methinks!

wasnt tbag the one where the kid wore his cap to the side?

I used to be a big fan of this show. It was a mixture of items the girl was looking for. It changed from series to series. One time it would be silver spoons, then gold letters, then crystals, and so on. Tbag was also hunting down these items. She needed to capture them before the girl did, and she needed to get hold of the whole set. I can't remember the importance of the items for some reason. Something to do with tbag's powers I think. Anyhow, it was all very odd. The worlds they trondled through were very imaginative. Tbag was bloomin scary too.

Soon as I saw this thread my fave popped straight into my mind:

Dungeons and Dragons   Wasn't it on Saturday mornings on one of the Satruday Kids TV shows?

Which leads me into one more

Saturday Swap Shop

Clearing through the cobwebs of my memories from childhood, I'm pretty sure Dungeons and Dragons was the only programme I ever got mad at myself for missing.  We are talking the cartoon here aren't we?

Captain Pugwash. There was no seaman stains or master bates and the cabin boy was called Tom. It was a spitting image sketch that featured theses characters.

Mysterious Cities of Gold, what happened in the end? did it conclude
Around the world in 80 days.

Does any one remember a prog on sundays called the boy who won the pools? about a punky kid who won the football pools on his 16th birthday? He hired a swedish aupair to drive him in a ferrari and his evil parents tried to steal the money every week (they lived in a caravan) His brother was a bit mad and made tin foil hats and slept in a sarcophagous

What a waste of time this thread is. Hundreds of programes mentioned, all with virtues undoubtedly.

However the all time most classic classic has not been mentioned

I love it

MR BENN

Also, no love for Jamie and the Magic Torch? the original Scooby Doo?

I had a huge crush on the oldest girl in The Brady Bunch too

Top Cat?

Joe90?

Finally does no one remember the BBC kids series from the 1970's about football called "Striker"? Now that was worth rushing home for

Monkey!

In the world before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when it's feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time and the pure essences of Heaven all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation. It became magically fertile. The first egg was named "Thought". Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha said "With our thoughts, we make the world". Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it came a stone monkey.

The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!!
