Title: Satellite hand Post by: Rexas on January 10, 2014, 02:50:39 PM This is a hand I'm putting up for a friend over a situation that occurred during the live 25 rebuy satellite for the GPS yesterday.
Blinds are 1500/3000. We're about halfway through the 20 minute clock for the level. There are 27 people left, with 20 seats. Hero is playing a little over 60k, average is 45 or so. Middle position limps playing 40k, hero finds dem aces in the cut off. Hero makes it 10k. Big blind, who covers, then jams. What do we do? Title: Re: Satellite hand Post by: Rexas on January 10, 2014, 02:57:10 PM I said at the time that I believe we can fold this hand before making it 10k. Because a satellite is not about winning chips, as soon as you feel like you have A seat locked, you have effectively won the tournament and remaining in your seat should be a formality. At this stage, given the amount of people left and our stack, I think we have a seat pretty much locked up, and this would be the decision I would try to make before voluntarily putting any chips into the pot.

Title: Re: Satellite hand Post by: DMorgan on January 10, 2014, 10:11:26 PM Definitely just jam pre
In a normal structured tournament we wouldn't jam pre because its more profitable to take on the risk of someone stacking you postflop for the payoff of a double up. In satellites in general and especially in this spot the marginal utility of chips is greatly diminished, so we'd much rather just shove and take down the 10k in the middle almost always than take it to the streets. Its also pretty cool that you're a huge favourite whenever you're called since you have the aces, but shoving pre rather than raising and allowing people to realise their equity against your hand postflop becomes even more important with a hand like AK for example. Title: Re: Satellite hand Post by: BorntoBubble on January 10, 2014, 10:18:39 PM Yeh Jam pre in a sat (or fold if you are 100% a lock). Just want the BB to fold and leave us alone he can just put us in a coffin now and have to fold so many hands. But we have them aces and we are not a lock i would say yet so we have to call.
