Title: Flopped trips/ best line?
Post by: shipitgood on January 14, 2014, 12:11:06 PM
Hand from 20nl hu cash. The player is reasonable enough. But he doesn't normally raise top pair. I call the flop bet, to let him barrel. Turn isn't ideal but i'm still not 2 worried.

On the river, say villain checked, would you bet small for value or just jam? I think I prob bet small 2 get some value from villain.

I have  7h  2s OTB (£20 stack )

Villian has £16 behind. I min raise to 40p (my standard open) HU cash to people normally 3x pre? I'm so used to playing HU sit and gos.

Flop,  2h 9h 2d

Villian checks, I bet £1.40, he check raises to £2.10. I call, pot is now £5.

Pretty confident I have the best hand here, I just call to let him barrel. Quite happy with this, if I raise, i'm folding out so many of his weak hands. He could have slow played something like Jacks or 10s.

Turn is the  9s, not brilliant but still quite happy. He doesn't usually check raise top pair, mybe he would with K9 Ace 9, but that's such a narrow part of his range, so i'm not 2 worried.

He leads for £3.75 (3/4 pot) I call, pot is £12.50. I have about £13 behind he has £9 behind.

River is  5c, he jams I call.

Thoughts on my line in the hand? If villain checks the river, i don't think i jam cause he's struggling to call, might bet something really small like £4/£4.50

Edit, i could fold (turn??) river, don't know if this would be good or bad, i'm happy that opponent doesn't have a 9 here often enough to call.

Flop bet is 60p not £1.40!

Dont want to sound a spolier, but i play a lot of HU, and am very wide with my opens, but 72os is a fold very time for me!
As played folding the river. Depends on reads, would he do it with an overpair, r flush draws? To be fair, our hand cant improve on the turn, unless we quad, so no point calling the turn to fold the river imo

Hey Vern!

HU, depending on the player, and how they play, I will play the vast majority of hands from the button.

In this hand I don't think he check raises the flop with a 9 (reads based on play over 3 separate sessions)

I wasn't loving it, on the river I was pretty sure he'd give up by then.

He had the nut flush draw.

If he checks the river, I know he's given up, then ive got a tricky decision do I shove or just bet small to get a call from a pocket pair/ ace high. I guess I prob bet smallish to try and get a crying call.

Think opening 100% of buttons is fine, depends on villain obviously, but at 20nl it's hard for it to be bad assuming you're confident you have a decent edge postflop. I used to play HU cash for a living and used to min-open and probs averaged opening 80-85% of buttons i think.

Flatting the raise on the flop is standard i guess, you can 3-bet sometimes because you'll be 3-betting as a bluff sometimes (it's pretty hard for either of you to have a value hand on 229) and it generally looks fairly FOS, so it's good to 3b sometimes when you've got it too.

Not folding the turn, his range for c/r flop doesn't contain nearly enough of a % of 9s in to make it a fold. Definitely will still barrel a FD sometimes here and continue with random bluffs here too sometimes. If he's nitty and really not going to barrel much at all i guess we can think about folding, but it's HU and we have a full house, so pretty sure i'm never folding turn.

River certainly could be a fold.... it's really villain dependant. On the sites I used to play on i'd call vs the general population I played against and expect to be good a decent amount more than the 40% or so you need to be. The average sky player seems to be less likely to raise flop and barrel off as a bluff from my experiance, so I certainly might find a fold here, but it's down to your read of the villain, how you've been playing etc. Sometimes people just break if you've been pounding on him, it's pretty fun playing HU to get a feel for when this kind of thing might happen

agree with vern here i think i open  a lot of buttons heads up so do a lot of people, 72o surely cannot be profitable though right?
