Title: RSQ - Genetically Modified Ruud
Post by: ruud on January 20, 2014, 11:08:44 PM
Oh wait - look what it is!

That's right - RSQ returns! For any new people who haven't seen it before, here's a link to my last one:

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=59175.0 (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=59175.0)

and here's how it works:

Rules:

The score for each question is the number of people who give that answer.

The most popular answer is the sheep.

Incorrect answers receive the sheep score plus 5 points.

Lowest score wins.

Using Google is not allowed.

You may choose to pass on up to two questions and will receive 0 points for those two questions.

PM your answers to me by 10am Sunday 26th January. The reveal will take place at 7pm the same day.

1) Name a chemical element with an atomic number below 20

2) Name a winner of Strictly Come Dancing (either the professional dancer or "celebrity" is fine) - Christmas Special Winners do NOT count

3) Name a book of the New Testament

4) Name a British Prime Minister since World War 2 (1945 onwards!)

5) Name a 3D Shape for which I would expect my Year 11 Top Set to know the formula for either the surface area or volume

6) Name an English cricketer with 100 or more test caps

7) Name a film directed by Quentin Tarantino

8) Name an album (non-compilation) by Oasis

9) Name one of them books by JK Rowling with that wizard kid in

10) Name a US state beginning with a vowel

11) Name a current Premier League Football Ground

12) Name a country which I, Ruud, have visited

Ok... that's all!

Good luck people, and get your answers in!

Well played Sir, we've needed one of these for a while. I'm hoping to be second so as to avoid having to do the next one....

Will you be analysing the results with your students??

Thanks again

Disappointed with there being another shape question tbh. Am all for maths stuff but was hoping for something a little less...Euclidean.

Maths jokes ftw

time to remind/educate of the single greatest answer in RSQ history (IMO of course and only narrowly ahead of my grasshopper chess piece)

3 - Name an oil used in cooking.

...

WRONG ANSWERS - 8 POINTS

Tinf - smashedagain

How that didn't win, I'll never know.

How about sticking to the rules and not sending your answers in in stages?

::)

(That kind of thing?)

Title: Re: RSQ - Genetically Modified Ruud
Post by: ruud on January 22, 2014, 11:09:34 PM
I actually wish I hadn't allowed passes now, but never mind.

Fair play those people brave enough to go for no passes. No changing your answers allowed after first entry from now on anyway!

Already up to around 20 entries so reveal time should be fun!

Still no word from:

Tikay
RED-DOG
Pleno
Rexas

And numerous others (I almost put "other big names" but then I realised what that would be implying! ;))

Would love the above 4 in for pure controversy value though!

Got some corking answers already btw!

And don't worry..... PLENTY of FARCE! :)

In...

Years ago while at School I wrote an essay on the similarities between Star Treks alien civilizations and human civilizations, most likely the best piece of work I'd ever produced, I got a C grade for it, because of one throwaway line at the end, which was "Klingons Rule"...!!

I'm sure Ruud gets the jist of what I'm trying to say...?   ::)

The graphic includes Calcium, which would be a wrong answer.

Fortunately, no one picked it, or that could have got ugly.

I expect that's the last point of order needed, given that you are a man of education.

Fine! I'll start.

You can make a rectangular prism, can't you? If so, you can't whale it with anything else. You just have to decide whether your class would know how to work out the volume of it.

Or we saying BangBang is a very astute man indeed and has exploited a loophole?

Obviously they could work it out!

If you start with a square prism and stretched the base at one end, you would get a different shape. From the side on, rather than an equilateral or isosceles triangle, you would get a scalene triangle.

There is no way you are telling me that they know how to work out the area of a cone and triangular based pyramid and not a Rhombus!! Please can you double check and ask him/her again as they surely must be able to do it if they can work out the area of a triangle and square!!

I am not sure I follow, it sounds to me like you have created a trapezium on the front face by stretching "the base at one end". Therefore that's the constant shape running through the prism, not a rectangle.

Well, BangBang should be here to answer for himself...

However...

I mean stretching the base to make a rectangle. So the dimensions of the four sides at the base are, say 2,5,2,5.

If you're not sure what shape he means, must be wrong.

Right, so you made a box..... you made a 3d shape with the same 2d shape running all the way through it - a rectangle - hence, a rectangular prism, which, by definition, is a cuboid!

Farce. "Directed by" Kill Bill -  the whole bloody affair is still being made isn't it? therefore he is currently in the process of directing it.

Farce. "Directed by" Kill Bill -  the whole bloody affair is still being made isn't it? therefore he is currently in the process of directing it.

From Wiki:

Tarantino announced at the 2008 Provincetown International Film Festival that a single film version of part 1 and 2 called Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair with an extended animation sequence was to be released in May 2009.[6] Screenings of the complete film began on March 27, 2011 at the New Beverly Cinema.[7] This was verified to be the original print that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003,[8] before the decision was made to split the film into two parts due to the roughly four-hour length. The print shown at the New Beverly even retained the French subtitles necessary for screening an English-language film at the Cannes festival.

The album is clearly called "shoulder" - Noel Gallagher got it from a 2 pound coin in a pub whilst steaming apparently; and being the son of a gun that he is, adapted it accordingly!

Great Quiz...

Slightly annoyed at myself for not choosing to pass certain questions.. Definitely think that passes should pose some sort of penalty in future quizzes..

Good going Ruud... Was great fun...!!!

Acid-----> Get on it....!!

Objection to England, Scotland, and Wales on the final question.

Had this been Pointless those answers would have been fails.

Right Tighty, I am on it for the next one. I was indeed messing about with most of the questions. I am actually very good on Tarantino knowledge and knew that From Dusk Till Dawn was something he starred in and produced rather than directed, but for the poker relation i thought i would fail in style, plus incorrectly name it by getting rid of the "From".

I knew at my best I am mid table obscurity, I thought I would rather fail with aplomb. But you have called me out and I am attempting to take everyone down for the next one. I am off to read up on general knowledge as we speak :)

tbf, I enjoyed his and Tikay's answers quite a lot.

However, they'd both get detention at school! Well, Ant at least, it's a bit harsh to punish Tikay at his age ;)

This sounds pretty kinky, did you mean for it to come across that way :D

At least you have an excuse for "doing a Palace" & finishing plumb last......

I don't have such an excuse, though I was not aware (speed-reading sucks) that Passes were allowed, or I would have been a little higher up the Table. Possibly. I was certainly not being disrespectful to Mr Ruud, bit I promised I'd enter, & so I had to.

I did think my answer to Q1 (Chemical elements) deserved a little more love, that was my intended attempt at humour, but only Chess Bloke thought it worthy of mention.

Must try harder.....

Good luck to the next incumbent, Mr Acidmouse, & congrats to him on his victory.

Plump, Pulp, yeay yeah, whatever, but I was genuinely surprised that the answer was incorrect, I could have sworn it was a Tarantino film.

No excuse. Meant to be a football fan, No excuse

Shocker.

space bar was stuck on PC..

I have no excuse for Harry Potter and the twin towers though nor do I have an excuse for putting Amsterdam down as a country.

I am going to take my time over the next one..

Thank god for Tikay & Ant.

Thanks Ruud, thoroughly enjoyed. Sure Acid will have the next one up by the end of the week. Can't wait.

Is ruud a math teacher?

There was a miscount on my scores..

I failed on Desperado for 11 so was suprised i won.

My totals for all the questions were: 2 3 1 6 4 2 11 7 1 1 pass pass. = 39 total.

Sorry I missed your reveal Ruud, I was out I'm afraid, but given my dismal performance it was probably a good thing.

Thought the shoulder/shoulders thing was a bit harsh, surprised it didn't kick off at that point!

Thanks for reviving the RSQ, and Well done Acidmouse! (I think!)
