Title: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: Waz1892 on January 31, 2014, 06:18:11 PM My Dad and I were debating the greatest football team ever, he was wax lyrical about the current city team, he came up in his 60+ years of watching football the following;
thoughts, additions Spurs, Real, and Penerol (me neither?)from the 60s Liverpool in the 80s Arsenals team "the invincibles" Ac Milan with Gullit, Van Basten & rijkard. Ajax from the 80s Brazil '70 Barc c2005-10 City c2012-4 Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: Teacake on January 31, 2014, 06:33:10 PM Ajax of the early 70s rather than 80s surely?
France mid 80s and Holland 74 to 78 were great teams to watch. Hungary team of the 50s was meant to be immense. If Spurs of the 60s are in there so are Celtic late 60s early 70s. Man City should be nowhere near a list like this yet. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Also the city team that have struggled in Europe* for all them years mentioned *admittedly have a chance this year Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: mondatoo on January 31, 2014, 07:07:52 PM Man City should be nowhere near a list like this yet. I thought people were getting carried away suggesting they'll definitely beat Barca :) Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: Kmac84 on January 31, 2014, 07:18:00 PM Celtic mid 60's to early 70's.
Ajax 70's Liverpool 80's AC Milan 90's Barcelona/Bayern - New Millenium. Man City as a greatest team is just lol. They have only bought a Premier League title and have failed against any decent force in Europe. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: mondatoo on January 31, 2014, 07:22:11 PM Surely Man U at some point of the last 20+ years is an automatic in the discussion.
Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: Waz1892 on January 31, 2014, 07:37:29 PM Not sure saying city are anywhere near the great teams of the past, but potential is big to be compared in 10 years or so.
Theyve only been good for a season of imo and great for 6months imo. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: pleno1 on January 31, 2014, 08:37:42 PM Newcastle 94-95?

Man United would be late nineties early noughties, but for me the AC Milan team earlier in the 90's were better and through the new millenium Barca were better. If you were talking great managers then obviously SAF wins hands down for his work at Man U/Aberdeen Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? If you were talking great managers then obviously SAF wins hands down for his work at Man U/Aberdeen I agree the Barca team were better, too young for AC Milan team. Just saying they should be in the list. Personally I think Mourinho's achievements are better than Sir Alex but I'm sure I'm in a big minority there. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: TightEnd on January 31, 2014, 10:31:29 PM Sir Alex over Mourinho for longevity I think
Built 3? 4? top title winning teams. 1999-2001 being the best of the lot? Not old enough for Hungary in the 50s, Brazil early 70s, West Germany 74 etc but they have to be in there right? Nothing beats the Brazil team of 1970? Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: mondatoo on January 31, 2014, 10:38:38 PM When I used to play Champ Man I never dreamt about staying at one club for 15 seasons and winning the league lots of times, amongst everything else he won.
I did always want to win the League and Champions League for an English, Spanish and Italian club, only managed it once, and I spent A LOT of hours playing it. So Mourinho's achievements impress me more than what Ferguson has done. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: dwayne110 on February 01, 2014, 11:59:33 AM The inclusion of the present City team is ridiculous in any greatest teams ever assessment, let's wait til they win something please! The measure of how good they are will come in a couple weeks against Barca.
For balance, I think they've got potential to win the lot and knock out Barca, their goal difference is ahead of anything we've had in the Premier League era, and they could well go on to win 1-2 European cups over the next 4-5 given the perfect age profile of their squad. I shall be reserving judgement on them til they have sufficient trophies to merit places alongside the other great teams mentioned... A great team gets shit done at the business end of the season, so time will tell eh Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Blinded, and provocative by me, apologies, but i get annoyed when i hear AF getting too much plaudits!, when its not as cleat cut and very different eras. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Maybe not even the best Brazil team - if it wasn't for the 2nd round group stage in the 1982 World Cup (Italy, Brazil & Argentina) these boys would get more of the recognition they deserve. Post by: Longy on February 01, 2014, 04:18:08 PM Spanish team of the last 5/6 years won 3 straight major international competitions. I think they get put down as their style is somewhat boring, turning passing into a form of defence. Depth wise they are very strong think of some of the player not making the 1st team.

Porto - Champions League Chelscum - 2 PL titles Inter - Champions League Madrid - Beat the best club side of the last 30 years to win La Liga Pretty bloody impressive CV. I'd add Lippi and Ancelotti to best ever manager candidates. Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: redsimon on February 02, 2014, 09:15:20 AM Nottingham Forest 1977 to 1980?
League title, two European Cups two League Cups and 40 game unbeaten run in the League . Title: Re: Greatest Football Team Era Ever? Post by: The Baron on February 02, 2014, 02:01:39 PM Never mind two champions leagues, Lippi's Juve should have had 3 in a row.
