Title: The "I was aiming for second" RSQ - Pokerpops has a crack at it.
Post by: david3103 on February 10, 2014, 12:15:28 PM
Nobody was more surprised than I when I came out as the winner of Sharplea's quiz and whilst I was indeed aiming for second I've tried to find a set of questions with something for most people and will do my best to minimise the farce next week.

Rules

The score for each question is the number of people who give that answer.

The most popular answer is the sheep.

Incorrect answers receive the sheep score plus 5 points.

Lowest score wins.

Using Google, wiki, or other research is not allowed.

You may choose to pass one question and will receive 0 points for that question.

I am a tolerant quiz master and will not penalise poor spelling or other similar errors, although if my mood is bad at reveal time I reserve the right to be an awkward sod.

You must PM your answers to me by no later than 1800 on Monday 18th February. The heading of your PM must be The "I was aiming for second" RSQ, a penalty of 5 points will apply for failing to so title your submission.

Reveal will be somewhere around 2000 on Monday 18 February. My house will be full of grandchildren by then so you'll just have to suck it up if it runs late.

1. Name a club that has won the European Cup or  EUFA Champions League more than once (or a combination of both)

2. Name a member of the gull family ( as listed by the RSPB )

3.Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute barrier for the mile on 6 May 1954. Name a male athlete who has held the World Mile Record, as ratified by the IAAF and their predecessor, since then.

4. Name a sport that will be part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Individual events such as 100 metres men will be marked as a fail, I'm looking for sports, as listed on the Official Games website.

5.Name a poker player in the top 20 GB & Ireland cashes list according to the Hendon Mob database as at Sunday 9 February 2014.

6.Name an English City which is North of Nottingham

7. Name an individual winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Organisations and multiple laureates are excluded.

8. Name a bridge in England which you have to pay a toll to cross.

9. Since Disney acquired Pixar there have been 17 films released under the Disney Pixar label. Name one.

10.  Name an artist who has appeared on ten or more UK Number 1 singles.

11. Sheep question, pick a colour of the rainbow. The score for this question will be multiplied by -1 and you are therefore attempting to find the most popular answer here.

My sources for answers will be exclusively applied, they may include Wikipedia but only where I have satisfied myself that the information is good enough to use for this purpose.

QM mentions spelling then in question 1 misspells UEFA.

QM mentions spelling then in question 1 misspells UEFA.

QM mentions a propensity to be lenient over spelling issues, although I can see that at least one entrant will need 100% accuracy...

Does an artist mean an individual or a group? Can it be a member of a group?

Gonna be honest and say i was hoping no one would say anything on the above, as now you have opened a can of worms for potential answers for others that wouldn't have gone down that route. I don't mind too much though. I have looked up one answer i already handed in now and it is pathetic and a joke one is thrown in there too as i had no idea.

Answer to the last question though I am confident I have the correct answer.

In it for the communal experience, not to win, yeh.

In. Struggling with only one pass as there were two I wanted to. Knew an obvious two for one of them but nothing juicier so I've had a stab at a more obscure one for the other one.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Good range of questions!

Not sure about the etiquette of clarifying points like this once answers have been submitted.

Think the question is pretty clear anyway.

I agree with the sentiment coming through that, like last week's, it is a bit too much like a knowledge quiz. I need more than one pass for this too, so I'll shoot some guesses in. But these quizzes are supposed to be about choosing an obscure option from all the obvious answers, rather than trying to find one correct answer you can use.

Can you define multiple laureates? Do you mean that if the prize was awarded jointly to two people, neither of those individuals can be our answer?

Sport again!  ;frustrated;
I haven't got a scooby about half these questions, I'm beginning to think it's a conspiracy to make sure I never win one of these again.

Woe betide you all if I do, you'll get questions on tinted moisturiser and Dolly Parton songs.

With hindsight it was a bit mean offering just one pass, but meh, it's done now.

I take it you watched the Interior Design challenge too? I thought Johnny should win, but then I got every attempt to pick a winner wrong in every programme.

Not in this week I'm afraid :(

I didn't see it as being hard and thought that two passes allows too much tactical passing, I'll know better next time, if there is a next time.

i believe the question is sufficiently clear without further clarification.

any clarifications offered once there have been entries submitted would seem to be unfair in any event and all challenges and queries should now be reserved for reveal time.

Sorry David, never even heard of that programme.
Not really my bag interior design, clean, dry and warm are my main criteria, I hate scatter cushions and knick knacks and that kind of stuff.

Actually I'm probably not as girly as I'd like to think!

Question 2 Name a member of the gull family ( as listed by the RSPB )

Surprisingly, despite the fact that so many of us refer to so many birds as Seagulls, inspired perhaps by the Richard Bach book Jonathan Livingston Seagull which brought such gems as “We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill.”  and “The gull sees farthest who flies highest”  and who could ever forget the sense of understanding of life when they first read “¡Si nuestra amistad depende de cosas como el espacio y el tiempo, entonces, cuando por fin superemos el espacio y el tiempo, habremos destruido nuestra propia hermandad! Pero supera el espacio, y nos quedará sólo un Aquí. Supera el tiempo, y nos quedará sólo un Ahora. Y entre el Aquí y el Ahora, ¿no crees que podremos volver a vernos un par de veces?”

I took the view that the bridge and the crossing were synonymous - in fact on my list of Toll Bridges .pdf it is shown as Dartford River crossing.

Finally!

Question 11 Sheep question, pick a colour of the rainbow. The score for this question will be multiplied by -1 and you are therefore attempting to find the most popular answer here

16 of you chose Red
sixteen!!

so -16 to your score
Longines         Red
dwh103         Red
TightEnd         Red
Ant040689         Red
Graham C         Red
HutchGF         Red

Fatcatstu         Orange

and one each elsewhere
moonandback      Violet
stribling         Yellow
millidonk          Green
BulldozerD         Indigo
Boba Fett         Blue

The sheep score is -16

Add 5 = -11
Multiply by -1 = 11 for the incorrect answer delivered by just one person

Nobel prize one was a shit question. You worded it badly, as joint winners are those who are named as an entity (such as the anti chemical weapons people, not sure what the organisation's name is), whereas when individuals win it together they are named - individually.

Crap question, and you've penalised people for your crappy QMing.

Farce.

yeah

deffo think all first time QMs should be made to submit their questions to a panel of elders for checking.
Suggest G2L and yourself. Probably should also pay you both a fee to cover your time and expertise too :-)

Pretty sure I took my son to see a disney pixar movie called Planes last year? It was by the same team as Cars so if Cars is correct, then surely so is Planes?

Thanks for the quiz though.

I wouldn't worry David, that was a good quiz. I quite like the different nuances in each person's new quiz and a vetting system may actually make the whole process a little bland and similar?

I like not knowing what to expect. This quiz was tough for me and was giving it my all too, but I will improve in general knowledge. I must!

As I didn't have two passes and had no guessing idea for 2 q's, one answer was facetious. Do not take this as a slight on your quizmastery David.

Good quiz, want moarrrrr.

Had a quick google on your behalf and although it was a Cars spin off it was made by Disneytoon studio.
Who'd a thunk.  :(

Hi David  :hello:
Sorry I missed yet another reveal, rest assured if I'd have been in I would have happily heckled all the way through  ;D
Turns out I did alright with the sport questions, it was the 'easy' bird question that done me.

Thanks for hosting, and well done jbworldwide. x
