Title: The Big Green Egg
Post by: theprawnidentity on March 13, 2014, 11:00:23 AM

Does anybody own / have any experience with these and can they confirm if they're decent/worth the money?

Yeh, with all the extras and stuff you need a large one will end up costing about £1.5k, so driving 80miles to pick one up probably wouldn't be a concern  :)

Sorry should quantify this by pointing out I have seen one used a few times - both for smoking, pizza and traditional BBQ.  They are confirmed brilliant.
Easily controlable, easy to clean and maintain.  Build quality is excellent cant praise it enough, but it is X x £100 depending on size.

I do need a new bbq tbf. My last one was £250 but after 2 summers and winters uncovered it just a pile of rusty bolts now. I would love a brick bbq thing but not got the space for it.

Any one got any thoughts on BBQs which are less expensive than novelty easter eggs?

Should be decent for the price, bit out of my price range.  I'm happy to flip those steaks on a cheapie bbq.

If you can lend me 3 hours of your life to look after little one while I go and collect, and while I am gone, convince the wife that that 3 hours did not need to be used to do something "more important/productive" it would reduce my level of concern ;)

Only on blonde can you ask for BBQ advice and end up acting as a dispute mediator and babysitter.

I got a bbq and a smoker. Guess the green egg combines the two but I couldn't recommend the Webers highly enough

The Big Green Egg is the very best in BBQ, they even use them at the Savoy Grill.

They do however take all the guess work and experimentation out of BBQ which is the beauty of it.

Dave's suggestion of the Webber's is excellent.

I personally use an offset smoker BBQ:

gently smoking a large Brisket for 10 hours on a summer Saturday is a special balancing act of keeping the charcoal lit at the right temperature, and not getting too pissed too soon and letting the fire out! :)

Ok what exactly is a brisket? Hear about it all the time on the Big bang theory, sounds nice, is it a big chunk of cheap beef that needs slow cooking?

Yes, its one of the cheaper cuts, kind of the beef version of breast of lamb or belly pork, but it's defiantly the tastiest.
Usually comes in a tied 'roast' and has a good amount of nice yellow fat running through it, if you catch the juices they make the best gravy ever.

I think the Americans barbecue or pot roast it, then shred the meat like pulled pork.  ;kev;

Morrison's actually do great brisket, and you can ask them to cut you a piece if you want a bigger/leaner bit than whats on display.
