Title: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: tikay on March 15, 2014, 03:36:35 PM Thoughts, please? Cheltenham went so well partly because it was over 27 (?) Events, & 4 days. Not many other Events fit that profile. Next up, as to "major interest" Events are..... Grand National & associated Meeting. The Masters Golf Guineas Meeting The (Football) World Cup Epsom Derby Meeting Royal Ascot The Open. Not sure how many of them would work as well as Cheltenham - just Royal Ascot & maybe the World Cup? When I was discussing the Cheltenham thing with Mere beforehand, he stressed he did not mind - enjoyed even - doing them, but was keen that it got plenty of Entrants. Doing it for 8 or 9 Entries is no good. Suggestions welcomed. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: Omm on March 15, 2014, 03:41:14 PM The Master for me. Can do loads with it.

Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: tikay on March 15, 2014, 03:45:26 PM The Master for me. Can do loads with it. The key thing is retaining interest beyond the first day. Just "name the winner" would not work, as most would lose interest after Round One. Chelters worked because we all had 27 attempts, & were always still in with a chance up until the very end. Except Big-D & Dubai, of course. . Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: tikay on March 15, 2014, 03:45:51 PM Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Haha, still won a large proportion of the entry fee back though, not many can say that :P I have enjoyed everyone of these tipping competitions, Vince organise them all so well and they are full of fun. Would be in for most competitions whatever they are as long as they don't become overbearing and happen to often so a quarterly competition or something would be ideal, obviously depending on the timing of the events. Post by: Tal on March 15, 2014, 03:58:02 PM Masters works if you're picking the winner of each day's card. Must be markets for those we can play off.
I'm in for pretty much anything (jokes on your own time, please) Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: redsimon on March 15, 2014, 04:15:47 PM If be in for a World Cup one. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: Marky147 on March 15, 2014, 04:20:21 PM In for anything.

Except Big-D & Dubai, of course. . Agree with you Tikay. But straight off you have 1st round leader, lowest score each day, GIR, longest drive, do it based on a team of players cumulative scores. It doesn't have to be just name the winner and I'm sure the golf boys can come up with a few ideas. The problem is that Cheltenham is massive so some people played who may not normally. You know whatever is done will not please everyone but the numbers will tell if it will work or not, if it doesn't get the numbers it doesn't have to run regardless of the event. Once a quarter sounds good, so whatever events might fall into that space unless demand dictates more. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: Kmac84 on March 15, 2014, 05:11:12 PM Would it not make sense for the tipping comps to be on Stakes and Ladders then both Blonde and S&L benefit. Is there not currently an affiliate deal in place for blonde?

Who can forget Galloway's swoop from last place to win drawing away on the final day? I did enjoy The Masters but golf is one of my special interests. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Here is a list of events this year: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/25455532 We've previously run competitions for: The Masters (April 10-13) http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=60795.0 Aintree (April 3-5) http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=60721.0 Royal Ascot (June 17-21) http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=61443.0 Unfortunately, as you can see, The Masters and Aintree follow on closely from Cheltenham. The Masters competition has been run slightly differently to the racing events. I'm not overly creative so would require some input into the best format if we run a competition for events like the World Cup. All that is needed is a set of generally available odds (for a wide enough number of markets) and results that anyone can access. Alternatively, I'm open to suggestions for new formats that might provide more fun. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Is there not currently an affiliate deal in place for blonde? Yes, we have an Affiliate deal with Stakes & Ladders, & we are as supportive of them as we are able, very much so. They will confirm that. However, I think "Community-Based" Tipping Comps, just 3 or 4 per year, which, crucially, are exclusive to blondes ONLY, is only fair & reasonable. They are part of the blonde furniture, & whilst we support S & L, I would wish them to continue, as they are much appreciated by many blondes. S & L run "pools" every day, on every event, & I hope they are successful. I think the 3 or 4 blonde Tipping Comps per annum should continue, though. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Cheltenham ran to 27 pages, & I think it was absolutely perfect. Running it on S & L would not feel quite the same, imo. I just feel 3 or 4 times a year is right to do a blonde one. S&L runs 3 or 4 every day, & I hope they are all successful. Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: tikay on March 16, 2014, 09:56:30 AM Thanks for all the feedback. The Masters - with some help as to methodology from the Golf Lads, & Royal Ascot feel right to me for the next 2. I'm not sure about the World Cup, to be honest. What will the time difference be? Will the games take place during "normal" hours? Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: typhoon13 on March 16, 2014, 03:32:29 PM Blonde tipping contests have got to be kept solely on here surely I would not take part, to me it's the in house banter that really counts I can only see Cheltenham and Royal Ascot working and appealing to the wider audience Don't want to offend anyone, purely my thoughts Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? But don't drum up the same amount of interest as the two majors Title: Re: Next Tipping Comp? Post by: Acidmouse on March 17, 2014, 10:19:56 AM Has to be something everyone has a chance to win, racing fits that bill. We have many shrewd sports betters on here, some very specific to certain sports and I would be reluctant to enter if I knew others had big edge over me. I prefer if any tipping comp was horse racing, any big meeting is fine.

Worked quite well if I remember correctly - something similar could be done I am sure. http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=10347.0 http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=9984.0 |
