Title: What's the best piece of advice you ever received? Post by: DaveShoelace on April 11, 2014, 07:02:10 PM Saw this in another forum and there were some crackers.
I'll start: Always know that life is unfair (From my dad all the time, not in a negative sense, always in a don't moan/work hard kind of way) He also said always buy the most expensive car you can afford which I'm only just realising is golden advice. 'Hear all, see all and say nowt' I manage this about 95% of the time! Title: Re: What's the best piece of advice you ever received? Post by: Mohican on April 11, 2014, 07:41:54 PM From my old fella when I first had a civvy job after leaving the RAF. He said'dont become a slave to the overtime'. Took me a little while to work out what he meant but he was spot on.

Might have whooshed me here, I have no idea what this means. You probably pop upstairs several times in a day. There are always things that need to be taken upstairs (and downstairs). If you are going up anyway to use the toilet / brush your hair / get your jumper etc, it is easier to take something with you then instead of having to make an extra trip later specially to take it up. Never kick a pasty in the ribs. Haven't got a clue what it is supposed to mean...but he is Welsh. Title: Re: What's the best piece of advice you ever received? I've always thought that most people spend too much money on cars relative to how much money they have. In this context he wasn't really talking in terms of flash cars , he was talking about first cars, family cars etc and in the context of not buying an old banger that will cost you thousands in repairs Title: Re: What's the best piece of advice you ever received? Post by: HutchGF on April 12, 2014, 12:09:00 PM Two bits of awesome fatherly advice from the biggest positive influence in my life:
1. ( As he was dropping me off at university for my first day). 'Drink as much beer as you want, sleep with as many girls as you want, but of you touch any drugs I'll chop your balls off.' 2. (When we ran a business together before I became a teacher) 'Don't ask any of the staff to do anything they haven't seen you doing yourself.' I'm very lucky - he is a great man and a great father. couple my dad told me: 1 - Don't join the military. 2 - Everyone will make mistakes, learn from the ones you make and move on. Main one I plan to pass on: Your first aim in life should be to do what makes you happy. Title: Re: What's the best piece of advice you ever received? Post by: Rexas on April 12, 2014, 05:05:26 PM Aside from everything Honeybadger has ever said to me, which I assume is just a given, there was a time where I'd just lost absolutely loads and was sitting and absorbing what was then my biggest every losing day, and Sean came over and told me to take comfort in the fact that I will definitely have worse.
