Title: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 08:12:36 AM I have apparently sent out an email that I didn't send. It contains a suspicious link.
It went to about 15 addresses, most of which I haven't used for 5 /10 years, and a couple of current ones. What, if anything, do I need to do please? Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: doubleup on April 18, 2014, 08:54:48 AM What email addy did you send it from? Did it go to all your contacts? Have you tried googling part of the suspicious link? Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 09:01:32 AM What email addy did you send it from? Did it go to all your contacts? Have you tried googling part of the suspicious link? It went from my AOL address. It didn't go to all my contacts, it went to about 15 very old contacts and tikay. I haven't tried googling the link. I will do that now. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: doubleup on April 18, 2014, 09:04:51 AM At least it went to tikay, he would have been very upset if you had left him out. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 09:09:45 AM This is the link. What do you think it is?
PS- Julian, if you're reading, don't click the link. Link removed for now... Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: tikay on April 18, 2014, 09:15:11 AM As I've been badly bitten before, & have become almost paranoid about these things, I never clicked the link, & I told Tom NOT to click it. Serious question - is it safe to show that link on blonde? For now, DO NOT CLICK IT please, unless the IT savvy sorts say it is OK. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 09:18:43 AM Do I need to remove it just in case someone can't resist?
Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: tikay on April 18, 2014, 09:24:22 AM Do I need to remove it just in case someone can't resist? Until the IT Savvy crew arrive, yes, I'd prefer that you did. Sorry to be such a wet blanket, but these things spook me more than they perhaps should. You or I can always re-post it later, when the sensible sorts have assured us that it is safe to do so. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: doubleup on April 18, 2014, 09:40:40 AM did you google a chunk of the link eg "nastybiz.com/"? usually stuff will come up about it if its dodgy Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: marcro on April 18, 2014, 09:45:11 AM Change your password.
Sounds like someone hacked into your email and is using it to send spam. Changing you password will stop this. Also, as a courtesy you may want to email the people who received it and let them know you were hacked and not to click the link. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 09:47:12 AM This is the link without the http bit

Suggest a virus and malware scan (download malwarebytes for PC if you don't have it already) Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 10:44:53 AM Important to change pw on any sites where you used the same pw as your aol. Title: Re: Rogue email Post by: RED-DOG on April 18, 2014, 11:04:57 AM One threat found.
I have instructed Malwatebytes to punch it in the face and then throw it down the front steps on to the pavement.
