Title: Can I get away?
Post by: Red_Baron on April 20, 2014, 01:17:56 PM
I am losing quite a bit at the minute and really starting to doubt everything that I am doing... What do you guys think of this hand?

Seat 1: Rock Pillow ($14.48 in chips)
Seat 2: selko1 ($10.05 in chips)
Seat 3: kolokolo77 ($16.12 in chips)
Seat 4: TurtleJunior ($25.15 in chips)
Seat 5: WsoeMene ($2.58 in chips)
Seat 6: EVCalculator ($22.42 in chips)
selko1: posts small blind $0.05
kolokolo77: posts big blind $0.10

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Dealt to Rock Pillow [ Aspades  Ahrt]
TurtleJunior: raises $0.20 to $0.30
WsoeMene: folds
EVCalculator: calls $0.30
Rock Pillow: raises $1 to $1.30
selko1: folds
kolokolo77: folds
TurtleJunior: calls $1
EVCalculator: folds

*** FLOP *** [ Qd  Ac  8c]

TurtleJunior: checks
Rock Pillow: bets $1.40
TurtleJunior: calls $1.40

*** TURN *** [ Qd  Ac  8c] [ 2c]

TurtleJunior: checks
Rock Pillow: bets $4
TurtleJunior: calls $4
*** RIVER *** [ Qd  Ac  8c  2c] [ Kh]
TurtleJunior: checks
Rock Pillow: bets $7.78 and is all-in
TurtleJunior: calls $7.78

*** SHOW DOWN ***

Rock Pillow: shows [As Ah] (three of a kind, Aces)
TurtleJunior: shows [Kc Qc] (a flush, Ace high)
TurtleJunior collected $28.09 from pot

Should I have slowed down when the third club comes? What if I check and he bets do I have to call? Surely I can't be folding every time three suited cards come out?

Any comments welcome :)

I think that this hand is completely fine.

I think you should bet the turn for sure, hands like AxJc, 88, JxJc even KcQx and a few other random something+club hands that will defo call another bet, depends how lose he is preflop as to how many unsuited hands he has but I think he gets to the river with more than enough non flush hands to shove.

Also (depending on how lose he is PF) his suited hands are kinda limited to KQ, QJ, KJ, JT and 9T

On the river mate, just check behind.

I like betting the turn. On the river it's difficult to get value from a hand that doesn't beat us.

I would defo be checking the river, after he's called the turn.

I think you're unfortunately completely obligated to value bet the river, obviously having QQQ is way better as it leaves lots of Ax (2ps even better out there) but given that his flushes are kinda limited (again depending on how lose he is pre flop which is pretty hard to determine I acknowledge) but  also need to consider a good % of the time he would take an aggressive action with a flush previous to the river.

I think his river range has more Ax, Kc Qx, 888, AQ, even AK and Kc Kx than flushes, and actually I can see him potentially heroing quite a bit here, even though he defo shouldn't.

We don't have many flushes wither given the cards that are out and he will have another blocker in his hand quite a bit.

Again I think the hand was played fine.

Probably a new player. Did you have any reads on him at all? How did he get his stack up to what it was?
Certainly don't mind how you played the hand. Remember that putting money into the pot even in a passive manner shows
strength. Could make a case for not shoving river and making a read/notetaking after showdown.

Unlucky hand all in all. Appreciate it can be frustrating losing these big pots as they always seem to undo a lot of hard work.

Not shoving the rver here will lose you a lot of money in the long term, wp
