Title: poker music
Post by: bolt pp on January 26, 2006, 03:03:07 AM
do you listen to music whilst playin online indoors? if so what is your prefered genre?
i go through five oasis albums usually whilst being a rock in a cash game(or trying to!!)
multi table action will see me kick off with a bit of potishead or scissor sisters but quickly switches to placebo when i crash out and get in the hot for a single table tourney!!!!
horses for courses or is there a discernable correlation between our online performance and the music we listen to?

I've never played online outdoors, but when it's a bit warmer I will.

I listen to music only occasionally when playing, and sometimes it distacts me, which isn't a good thing.

I chuck ITunes on when I am really pissed off, but rabbit hunt songs, which is bad.

Hi bolt. On a thread last week two guys were talking about the music they liked  to listen to when playing poker, they listed a top 10 each and I was too embarrassed to contribute as I had not heard of any of the 20 bands they mentioned.

I am assumimg most of those bands are shooting up the hit parade but for me you cant wack a bit of Prefab Sprout followed by a classic rock album I got for Christmas in 1985.

Rock on!

I like listening to Pearl Jam while playing. But over the last couple of weeks I have been listening to a Dolphins and Whales CD.
This sounds abit new-age hippy type stuff I know. However, I like feeling calm and this certainly does it. Try it...feel the peace man...lol

Is this something that you would listen independent of playing poker, or did you purposfully buy it to achieve the aforementioned sense of calm.I'm seriouly interested to know, and if you think it works?

No it is not my normal music. I normally listen to Pearl Jam, The Prodigy, Guns n Roses ....some classical.

But I felt myself getting really stressed at the table online. I kept getting beaten by people holding lucky cards. When this happened I automatically typed something offensive or went on tilt. So I had a look round the shops in Glasgow for a relaxation CD I could play while playing. I couldn't find anything, but soon after my friend downloaded a dolphin and whale CD to play to his new baby ( It is suppose to be soothing). I asked him for a copy.

I think it works. I like nature anyway and like the sounds of the ocean. This is really calming.

I am sure he got it from the music icon on the msn site. £5.99 I think. It is worth it if you like that sort of thing.

It works for Daniel Negreanu. He said in an interview he regularly plays this sort of thing at the table.

Can never resist skipping the i-pod over to the Indiana Jones Soundtrack when someone acting before me goes all-in and I hold pocket Aces.

I call first, wouldn't want to slow roll.

If you go all-in and I call you, then reach into my pocket and don some earphones, start putting yer jacket on  :D

I mostly listen to the many thousands of Irish songs I have on my iPod wether it be from the Dubliners- to Shebeen or from Christy Moore to Paddy Rooney.  I also have laods of flute band stuff, some pople take ita s a tell if I start tapping the lg and drumming to the sound of the music, created the desired effect most times and then I take the pot down.

Sometime I just sit with the earphones in and pretend to be ignoring anything going on at the table, I can see it frustrates some folk.  Its not as if it really makes much difference.

But I do admit I tend to play better when listening to a bit of Christy Moore, mixed up witha few Bob Marley numbers.

Tank switched me on to this one, its great I use it for coinflips and big bluffs.

whats better is when you start to hum the tune people look at you like you are a looney.
