Title: To defend or not to defend?
Post by: MC on May 04, 2014, 01:11:14 PM
$75 turbo

My read on villain is just that he is a reg, presume he is good just from recognizing the name, unfortunately no HUD stats as this must have been his first hand on the table.

Sort of stuck on what to do on flop, and not sure if preflop is a touch loose, but we are getting 4.5 to 1 on a call.

rubak787 (CO): 3,261 (8.2 bb)
nicehandle (BTN): 2,085 (5.2 bb)

I think you should fold 96s with shallow stacks. We are getting a great price to realise our equity and its fairly pretty but also seems really difficult to play because when we flop a pair we'll just be guessing a lot with v little postflop manouverability. Villains range shouldn't be particularly weak opening UTG+1 into this many jamming stacks and i think it's better to avoid being reversed for lots/all our chips by folding pre instead.

Yeh I let this go, think we're a bit too shallow and oop to a capable player (he was/is a coach for wizardofahhhs website).  Prefer defending if we have 20bb+ but not loving life.  He should have a strong range of hands open into a ton of reshove stacks 4 of which he probably has to call off vs.

Yes I agree, we cannot really be peeling this hand here.

Tom Langley in "likes a preflop peel from the BB" shocker :-D

Given we know nothing about the opener it's close. I always peel vs a random here but vs a reg that doesn't open tons I fold as our check rip doesn't get through enough otherwise.

100% check jamming flop though.

Yeh I just don't think we can fold a hand this strong pre flop . 95s could be v interesting though. Folding 94s.

C/r seems good now.

I'm lagging behind here I think... Surely we only have 14BBs? How can we peel here? Are we c/f if we miss? Are we still x/rip if we miss? Are we c/f A6x?

Because if someone isn't opening tight then most of the time they aren't flopping a pair. So when we flop a pair or a draw then rip it in.

Small suited cards work well because when you flop a pair or a draw then villain more likely to have missed too.

guess on lots of textures we're x/ripping if we find a GS or better?

Think 96s here is the borderline for me peeling. Deffo peel 97s and i'd never peel 95s. Clear x/jam now. Don't think it can be awful to peel, but obviously not an awesome spot given so shallow. I'd peel 96s off 17bb and be happy. With 15 it's just meh, dont mind either way.

Surely 15bb is better than 17bb here. Reversed implied odds are better when you're making your money from folding. Check jamming with 15 or 17bb will almost get the same amount of folds...

You mean there are greater reverse-implied odds with 17bb than 15bb, so you can justify folding more with 17bb than 15bb? Hmmm this may be true, although I was more thinking along the lines of dropping from 15bb-13bb is somewhat worse than 17bb-15bb as we lose a lot more fold-equity when 3b jamming and getting other jams or even r/folding off 15, which becomes somwhat more challanging from 13. Hence I might be inclined to fold in this spot for stack preservation. Close though

Yes, when you start to get to around the 13bb mark then once you've peeled and villain c-bet's 2.5bb then we are check jamming for 8.5bb. At this point we lose a lot of fold equity IMO compared to say check jamming for 11bb. Feel like people reluctantly call it off with A high once we get that low.
