Abs sick of BT. Broadband issues at least 2-3 times per night. Can't get Virgin in my area. Who can I switch too or does it not really make a difference? (ie is it my area or is it BT's fault?)

really depends on your area etc if all the companies are just using BT's equipment your pretty much fecked no matter what company you go with

I was told that it doesn't matter who's broadband you use because it all comes down the same line, but..

I was with AOL and got disconnected once or twice a night, so I switched to Sky and haven't been disconnected since.

Where you live? I get wireless broadband at 10 meg from a local newark company. It gets sent from a transmitter on top of a factory about 8 miles to a mast on top of a windmill in the village 800 yards from my house and then on to my house. Requires direct line of sight but signal is great.

You have to have specialist equipment installed on your roof and their router but cost £200 for the fix and £19 a month. Worth checking if there is a local company in your area that offers similar. Milli has similar via another local company in lincolnshire. Search rural broadband schemes or such like to see whats out there. Otherwise check when Bt infinit comes to your area or virgin.

Sky only could give me 0.3meg and was shit. They basically use BT equipment and depends on line quality and distance from exchange.

Im not Mr Murdochs biggest fan but I begrudgingly ended up with Sky , however they did everything on time and as promised .

I pay £20.40 per month for unlimited Broadband and phone line with free weekend and evening calls .The Broadband is fast and has never disconnected once ( to my knowledge )

Yes. I got a bundled package. Broadband + multi-room TV + phone.

They were all separate before, this way saves me ~ £35 pcm but you have to bargain with them like crazy to get the best deal.

Have you complained about the problems you are currently experiencing? Whoever you are with might be able to get someone to fix it.

I'm currently with BT and it is shite, discos all the time and very slow.
Was previously with sky before I moved half a mile away and rarely got discos with sky, will be back to them once contract is up

Virgin just rolling out faster broadband, they have a new Big deal package that puts the speed to the top 150meg for nowt effectively.

mines at about 80meg now dl 20up 15ping

thats one of the few benifits of living in a built up area

i'll take the poor broadband and no food delievery service for the noise free clean air

Not for us down South, don't think we will ever get virgin in my area

we will never get virgin up here either infact we are lucky we just got our broadband over 2 meg last year its up to 6-8 now

Can you get infinity (fibre) ? If you're a long way from the exchange but a short distance from your cabinet it can make a huge difference as noise interference affecting the exchange-to-cabinet link goes away.
