Title: World Cup RSQ
Post by: TightEnd on June 05, 2014, 02:23:35 PM
There are TEN questions. You must answer NINE of them and pass on one. You will score zero for the question you pass. You may not pass question 10

Your score for each question is the number of people who give the same correct answer. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep. If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the sheep score +5.

You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers.

The reveal will take place on Wednesday 11th 2 June at 8pm, the night before the World Cup starts

Objections will be considered during the reveal. However, my decision will be final. Verndog158 may not object. Objections to any answers by Rexas may be upheld summarily.

To enter you should PM your answers to me by 9am on Wednesday 11th June.

Q3 is straightforward. team playing in world cup finals not qualified via UEFA

Q4 Has to be a UEFA Member played in 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying

7. The greatest World Cup song of all time is "World in Motion" by New Order (1990). Name someone who appeared on the track, vocally.

you could have had

any member of new order...no one put a member of new order

keith allen, who co-wrote it

kenneth wolstenholme the commentator

now i started off thinking only some of the squad sang on it

indeed the notes on the sleeve say Barnes, Beardsley, Gascoigne, Waddle, Steve McMahon and Des Walker as provide vocals, though the entire squad is seen miming to the refrain in the video

however the sleeve also credits the "squad" for chorus and refrain, so on that basis i had to allow those footballers not named above

so

answers given

5   barnes   claw75
      mondatoo
      tomsom1987
      kp24
      redsgirl

2   beardsley   arbboy

2   wolstenholme   newportlad
      kinboshi

2   gascoigne   verndog
      mulhuzz

2   des walker   ironside
      redsimon

aces   mcmahon   longines
   shilton   mintrav

      glenndtd
      waz1892
      mark porter
      dino1980
      graham c
      stribling

a very disappointing number of passes

extra kudos to david3103, keith allen was the sort of answer i envisaged from the lateral

That's interesting, I didn't even consider there would be prize money on offer for the World Cup.  It makes sense of course that there would be but I've never considered it.

have two answers

verndog says $5.6m

mulhuzz says $30.001m

and the answer is

The total prize money on offer for the tournament was confirmed by FIFA as US$420 million (including payments of US$40 million to domestic clubs), a 60 percent increase on the 2006 tournament.[30] Before the tournament, each of the 32 entrants received US$1 million for preparation costs. Once at the tournament, the prize money was distributed as follows:[30]

US$8 million – To each team eliminated at the group stage (16 teams) ($8.65 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
US$9 million – To each team eliminated in the round of 16 (8 teams) ($9.73 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
US$14 million – To each team eliminated in the quarter-finals (4 teams) ($15.14 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
    US$18 million – Fourth placed team ($19.47 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
    US$20 million – Third placed team ($21.63 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
    US$24 million – Runner up ($25.96 million in 2014 US dollars[31])
   US$30 million – Winner ($32.44 million in 2014 US dollars[31])

In a first for the World Cup, FIFA made payments to the domestic clubs of the players representing their national teams at the tournament. This saw a total of US$40 million paid to domestic clubs. This was the result of an agreement reached in 2008 between FIFA and European clubs to disband the G-14 group and drop their claims for compensation dating back to 2005 over the financial cost of injuries sustained to their players while on international duty,

well all this time I wanted to win one and I have no idea what to do now.

aiiiight, will come up with something.

@verndog: 100% a guess (albeit an educated one). I happened to know that this year it's gonna be about $35m and just worked back for inflation and added a dollar incase you went for the same number and it was higher.

OBJECTION

It will be a sad, sad day when verndog is the pride of anywhere except his own bedroom.

Also, genuinely forgot to enter :p Nice bit of run good there, wouldn't have beaten CV for sure, great showing. Can definitely call this a win for you by default, so I'm currently 2-1 up.

damm farce objections england aint in the EU so cant be european and with UKIP winning the last election seems the population didnt want the UK to be in the EU either

wish i went with my other choice now of austraila ( i did send it to tighty so no aftertiming)
then i would have had perfect score just behind the tied winners
just couldnt afford to win this week
