CL on my table (850k) makes it 40k. He's been quite aggressive, raising most unopened pots.

I rr to 100k from 500k with pocket jacks. I haven't shown many hands and my image is fairly tight.

He sets me in.   

As played, yes anything but calling would be a mistake.

I doubt there will be any other possible,option pre flop giving description but depending in the tournament you could just shove ore flop to stop him from jamming and thus reduce the variance, but in this spot and this tournament it seems like a pretty trivial 3b/call.

Assuming you are playing very nitty then there is a chance he may also call wider when you shove than when you 3bet, for example if he has 88/99 there may be more chance that he calls your jam than 4bet jams as he can put you on smaller pairs etc but may not think you are creative enough to 3b/call.

I knew in my heart of hearts that I had to call, but I also knew that if I pass I will almost certainly ladder up another $2k or so. Quite a consideration for me.

I used to do stuff like this, I can see exactly where you are coming from.  You definitely need to be thinking about how you would respond to the shove before you 3 bet.  If the answer is fold, your choice becomes shove or call.  I don't think shove can be terrible, as people will call off too light vs your jacks.  Even if calling, you need a plan.  You can be ultra nitty and just only play if you hit a set if that suits your situation.  Even if you are nitty, there shouldn't be many flops where you fold to a cbet. 

It may be better to play on a different site.  There are a couple with smaller fields where you can still bink a few thousand for first, but you aren't looking at $2k ladder issues.  In the last 6 months I have stopped playing a lot of the high variance stuff and am much happier for it.

v happy with the 3b call here, u will be chip leader close to 70% of the time after this hand. like the other chap said this isnt the right hand to 3b if yr gonna fold to a shove w yr stack, do that with 78s and 3b smaller.

if it's an unfamiliar situation money wise and laddering is more important than winning the most on average from the tournament then I'd also jam JJ here. flatting will win you medium pots a lot but will also leave u in some tricky spots vs an aggro player.

we're 5 handed AND on FT bubble AND you said he is aggro, 3b/call is best play by far IMO as he will 4b shove vvv wide, some opponents as much as TJ+ and 22+, especially if he thinks you might fold jacks! however he will call your 3b jam much much tighter imo (depends what you mean by BAD aggro exactly)
