Hi,

I'm coming to London August for 2 days and would like to stay in the West End near all of the normal touristy stuff.

I would like to stay in a very good hotel, but would rather go off recommendation rather than gut/price.


Any suggestions? I have looked at a bunch on booking.com

If you want a great place in London you have a 2 types to go for, if money is no object.  The all singing large luxury hotel.  Ritz, Langham (might be shut for refurb), Savoy, Claridges, Corinthia, Dorchester amongst others.  Some of these are outrageously expensive but quality is really good.

My personal favourites though are the smaller boutique hotels.  The ones I like are the Covent Garden Hotel (5 minute walk to Leicester Square, Picadilly Circus, Covent Garden etc) and The Chesterfield which is in Mayfair.  From memory these are both about £500 a night but you might be able to get cheaper depending on what nights you want. 

If I was going to pick one I'd say Covent Garden Hotel - bit more lively and has a very good bar.  Probably a better location for the West End as well.

Obviously if you don't want to burn £500 a night there are a whole raft of slightly more economical options if you go on tripadvisor!

Maybe not the location you want though.

Russell Square Hotel is very nice and might be close enough to what you require.
Stayed about 10 days ago for the first time since the refurb and its proper nice.

It's okay location wise but you'd probably want to get a black cab to Leciester Square.  Probably a 25/30 minute walk at brisk pace.

Would be great if you can get a view looking the right direction.

would you rather fly to stansted or luton if staying in westminster?

or is heathrow just way way better?

Heathrow is easier mate, get the Heathrow express train straight in, then short tube or taxi.

I can recommend the Halkin and the Metropolitan, outstanding customer service at both.

London is just insane spensive for Hotels.

Amazing service, location, bars,  Take your Speedo's  the spa is Superb

Just a wonderful place. Great to people watch.

The best Hotel i've ever stayed at.
