Donald Rae Leads After First Flight Concludes at UKIPT Isle of Man

Douglas, Isle of Man - 2 October

The UKIPT’s return to the Isle of Man - the home of PokerStars – today created some of the toughest table draws seen on the tour so far, as former champions sat down to play with online wizards and experienced qualifiers. A total of 145 entrants played 10 one-hour levels on Day 1a of the £700 + £70 Main Event in the (literally) theatrical surroundings of the Villa Marina. By midnight, there were just 46 left, led by Donald Rae (154,900 chips), with chunky stacks also in the possession of Stephen Day (135,000), previous UKIPT Marbella champ Ludovic Geilich (123,700), and Jesse O'Shea (118,400).

Meanwhile, the battle for supremacy on the UKIPT Leaderboard continues, as Dara Davey forges into Day 2 of the Main Event with 29,900 chips, while current second place Max Silver remains hot on his heels (still in tonight’s £100 +£10 Turbo side event at time of writing).

Less fortunate were Team PokerStars Pros Matthias De Meulder and Luca Pagano, Steve O’Dwyer and last season’s UKIPT Champion of Champions Richard Evans. Defending UKIPT Isle of Man (and Nottingham) champion Duncan McLellan also hit the rail today, but, like all Day 1a casualties, he has the option to buy in again tomorrow - so there’s still a chance of crowning a triple winner.

If they fancy something a little different, there’s a unique chance to visit the home of PokerStars with behind-the-scenes tours of the Global Head Office tomorrow at 11am, 12pm and 2pm; tours can be booked at the UKIPT Information Desk in the lobby of the Villa Marina.

Click here for all Day 1a survivors, with chip counts.

Day 1b of the £350,000 guaranteed Main Event starts at noon tomorrow, when a new throng of players including Team PokerStars Pros Jake Cody and Victoria Coren Mitchell will take their seats. Join the PokerStars Blog for live reporting throughout (the livestream begins on Sunday at 12pm, with a cards-up finale on Monday 6th October). Visit the PokerStars.co.uk Facebook page for galleries and videos from the event, and interact using #UKIPTIoM.

The Main Event (October 2-6) is accompanied by a full schedule of side events, including a £2,000 + £200 High Roller starting on Saturday at noon and a unique £200 + £20 combined Chess and NL Holdem event tomorrow (6pm); visit ukipt.com for more.

Matthew Baker Comfortably Tops Day 1b – and Overall – Chip Counts at UKIPT Isle of Man

Douglas, Isle of Man - 3 October

The second and final start day of the £700 + £70 UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event saw Matthew Baker rocket into the overall chip lead, as he amassed a towering 235,600 chips over ten levels of play. Wei Li also out-stacked Day 1a’s chip leader Donald Rae (154,900) with an end-of-day count of 172,000.

While Team PokerStars Pro and two-time EPT champion Victoria Coren Mitchell was also building a healthy stack (129,000), the Villa Marina played (and is still playing, at time of writing) host to the tour’s first ever Chess and Hold’em side event, after a multitasking masterclass in both games from PokerStars Mind Games Ambassador Jennifer Shehade.

Day 1b saw a further 257 entries swell the ranks of the Main Event to 402, making the total prizepool £339,500. This will be divided between the top 55 finishers, with the winner taking home £65,900 on Monday (a min-cash is worth £1,660). For full payout information, visit the PokerStars Blog’s prizepool page.

Other high-stacked UKIPT regulars looking for one of the larger slices of the prize pie include UKIPT Marbella champion Ludovic Geilich (123,700), David Lappin (93,000) and Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Martins Adeniya. Adeniya won his first UKIPT title in the £250 + £25 UKIPT Series Pot Limit Omaha event back in May, and is looking to continue his form on the tour with a second trophy and considerably more money.

Another player with a healthy stack and significant prior success in the Isle of Man is PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo, who finished runner-up to Duncan McLellan in the inaugural Main Event here for £59,660. While McLellan busted on his second bullet today, her 91,600 chips amassed on Day 1a put her in the top quarter of remaining players, behind the likes of Barry Curtis, David Rees and Donatas Didika. Team PokerStars Pros Jake Cody and Luca Pagano hover around the middle of the chip counts, with 60,400 and 66,400 respectively.

Click here for the Day 2 seat draw. http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/ukipt4-isle-of-man-2-start-of-day-2-seat.shtml

Play restarts at noon tomorrow; rejoin the PokerStars Blog for live coverage (the #UKIPTLive stream will run from Sunday at noon on PokerStars.tv). Also kicking off at noon will be the £2,000 + £200 High Roller event, a sure draw for the many pros cooling their heels on the rail tonight (Team PokerStars Pros Chris Moneymaker, Theo Jorgensen and Eugene Katchalov are all out of the Main Event). Included in their number may be one or both of Dara Davey (who made Day 2) and Max Silver, still locked in battle for the UKIPT4 Leaderboard winner spot (and the entries and hotels for all Season 5 events).

Visit ukipt.com for the full schedule of side events this weekend, including tomorrow’s £300 + £30 Isle of Man Cup which starts at 6pm.

From Beets to Beats - Darren Woods Exchanges Chef's Hat for Chip Leader's Stack

Douglas, Isle of Man - 4 October

A lightning-fast Day 2 has seen the £700 + £70 UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event speed past the bubble and shrink the field to 40 players in under five levels. The track to an early finish was greased by the phenomenal chip accumulation of local chef Darren Woods, who ends the day as chip leader with 907,000.

Woods, who won the “I Love Manx” Chef of the Year competition (with imaginative use of beetroot, no less) started the day with just over 20 big blinds, but ended it in dramatic form when he eliminated Mark Hawks and Sylvester Geoghegan in the same hand and set the field free for the PokerStars Players’ Party tonight. Sarah Grant talked to Woods earlier about his full-time profession; watch the video here on PokerStars.tv.

The Main Event has already begun awarding shares in its £339,500 total prizepool, the big money awaiting those who make it to Monday’s final table, including a £65,900 first prize. Click here for full prizepool and payout details. There were a total of 402 entries representing 34 countries, including a sizeable number hailing from the Isle of Man.

A third of the 116 returning players were eliminated by the first break of the day, including Team PokerStars Online’s Mickey Petersen, Sam Grafton, Dara Davey and Team PokerStars Pro Chris De Meulder. The bubble didn’t last long enough to generate the usual tension, but it was, of course, a bitter moment for 46th place finisher Gregory Chambers.

Usually PokerStars staff aren't permitted to play UKIPT events but an exception is made for events in the Isle of Man and Dublin where the Rational Group have offices, and a tough contingent of one-off UKIPT hopefuls has brought Ian Marmion (currently in 5th with 333,500), Paren Arzoomanian, Lee Jones and Heath Cram through to Day 3.

Team PokerStars Pro Victoria Coren Mitchell found herself multitabling for a while at the end of the day as she could not resist the lure of the £2,000 + £200 High Roller event that started this afternoon. She made it through to Day 3, albeit with a shorter stack (77,500), as did Team PokerStars SportStar (and last year’s runner-up here) Fatima Moreira de Melo (58,500). Team PokerStars Online’s Adrienne Rowsome also has a healthy 227,000 stack.

Two prior UKIPT champions have survived to Day 3, Fintan Gavin (260,000) and Ludovic Geilich (77,000), while UKIPT Series Pot Limit Omaha winner (and Full Tilt Poker Ambassador) Martins Adeniya is in great shape to challenge for a trophy in the two-card poker variant, lying as he is in second overall with 448,000.

Click here for the chip counts of all 40 remaining players. http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/ukipt4-isle-of-man-2-start-of-day-3-chip.shtml

Click here for the Day 3 seat draw. http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/ukipt4-isle-of-man-2-start-of-day-3-seat.shtml

Tomorrow sees the start of the #UKIPTLive stream, which will run alongside the PokerStars Blog from noon. Watch and interact on PokerStars.tv, or on the iOS or Android mobile app.

Visit ukipt.com for the full UKIPT Isle of Man schedule, including tomorrow’s £150 + £15 Double Chance PLO event (at 12pm) and the final side event, a £100 + £10 Turbo Super-deepstack which starts at 3pm.

Josef Snejberg leads four other chip millionaires on the final table at UKIPT Isle of Man

Douglas, Isle of Man - 5 October

The final table is set at UKIPT Isle of Man, and it’s a cracking one, featuring four previous UKIPT finalists and two prior champions in the form of Fintan Gavin (Edinburgh, 2011) and Ludovic Geilich (Marbella last year). The chip counts are tight at the top, with five of the final eight playing over a million chips, but it’s 24 year old professional poker player Josef Snejberg who holds the lead with 1,561,000.

All 40 Day 3 players, from a starting field of 402, returned in the money today (55 in total were paid, for the breakdown visit the PokerStars Blog prizepool page), and were guaranteed at least a min-cash of £1,660. This prize went to short-stacked Team PokerStars Pro Victoria Coren Mitchell, first to leave the tournament this afternoon; she was followed by 31 other players including, early on, Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo (38th for £2,000), Simon Deadman (32nd) and, incredibly, overnight monster chip leader Darren Woods (30th for £2,340).

Adrienne"Talonchick" Rowsome, the last remaining representative of Team PokerStars Online in the field, finished in 12th pace (£4,650) and the longest lasting member of Rational Group Staff – Ian Marmion - made it one place higher. Christopher Corkhill finished in 10th (£5,360) after Gavin’s turned flush draw got there on the river vs. his straight, but it was an unlucky Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Martins Adeniya who broke the final table bubble exiting in 9th (£6,480) when his kings were cracked in a crucial pot.

Click here to view the list of finishing positions and payouts thus far.

The final table line-up, in seat order:

Marc Radgen (Germany), PokerStars Player – 743,000
David Hill (Isle of Man), PokerStars Qualifier – 1,029,000
Josh Hart (United Kingdom), PokerStars Player – 1,167,000
Josef Snejberg (Czech Republic), PokerStars Player- 1,561,000
Ludovic Geilich (United Kingdom), PokerStars Qualifier – 1,063,000
Fintan Gavin (Ireland), PokerStars Player – 1,148,000
Ciaran Heaney (Ireland), PokerStars Qualifier – 589,000
Thomas Ward (United Kingdom), PokerStars Qualifier – 544,000

Rejoin both the PokerStars Blog and the UKIPT Livestream tomorrow at 1pm (mobile apps for iOS and Android are also available); play begins at noon but we’ll be bringing the coverage “cards up” with an hour’s delay. A full line up of Team PokerStars pros and well-known experts will be joining the commentary team throughout the day; interact using #UKIPTLive.

The 2014 UKIPT London Main Event kicks off at midday on October 8 with the first of its two starting flights. With a £500,000 guaranteed prize pool, PokerStars needs at least 714 players to avoid an overlay.

Last year’s Main Event attracted 747 players

Running alongside the UKIPT is the London leg of the European Poker Tour

The £4,000+£250 buy-in EPT London Main Event aside, highlights include a £5,000+£300 Pot Limit Omaha event, the £2,200 buy-in UKIPT High Roller, and the £10,000+£300 EPT London High Roller (single re-entry).

Also there is no whole page for combined updates on both days heading into day 2?

I find it shocking that poker news is offering better updates than the actual brand who is behind the tour....

Stars pay pokernews to do the reporting. Stars focus on the bigger blog updates.

I find it hard to believe they have plenty of bloggers around yet no one seems to be updating ?

Also there is no whole page for combined updates on both days heading into day 2?

I find it shocking that poker news is offering better updates than the actual brand who is behind the tour....

They are the same thing.

We have been spoilt on blonde. These things cost money & resource, though, & it's tough to get "payback" or linkage that suggests they generate extra business for the host, who picks up the cost.

Whoever first started doing interactive updates has a lot to answer for, he has cost a lot of people a lot of money.
