Title: Ebola Post by: BigAdz on October 07, 2014, 11:45:32 PM Was it only me that thought the idea only repatriating those European/Non Africans to their home country was only ever going to end one way?
Did they not watch World War Z, or any other contagion movie??!! In all seriousness, I do worry that while the world concentrates on fighting madass pretend Muslims, this could take us by stealth. Or is my alarm unwarranted and only because I have a compromised immune system?! Title: Re: Ebola Post by: Woodsey on October 07, 2014, 11:48:17 PM Watch the movie outbreak mate, it should allay your fears ;D

Title: Re: Ebola Post by: MintTrav on October 08, 2014, 06:29:00 AM We are more at risk from over-reaction than any real threat. It's hard to believe that the police in Waterlooville panicked and closed the cells for half the day in case this guy had Ebola, not understanding that he is from a country more than 2,000 miles from the nearest occurrence.

More people die every day from Malaria than have ever died from ebola. More people die every week from measles than have ever died from ebola. #justsaying Title: Re: Ebola Post by: The Camel on October 08, 2014, 01:20:10 PM When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately priced up in my mind who started it.

Measles is contagious, yes, but vaccines are well-developed. Pretty hard to control the spread of Ebola, as I understand it. I know the Media blow these things up for the sake of news, but I think this is pretty bad. It's all about those with the resources having the will to do it. It's all about those with the resources having the will to do it. The reason it has done the damage it has is mostly due to terrible management of the situation. For example, dead bodies remain very infectious for a long time after death (weeks, I think), but they have allowed relatives to take the bodies and do their normal thing, which has caused a lot more infections. The health services in the countries most affected are some of the worst in Africa but, in contrast, Nigeria managed to control it effectively after an iffy start and hasn't had any new cases for some weeks. It's not particularly contagious - it's not airborne or waterborne for example - like John says the problem is largely to do with the countries it's in. Title: Re: Ebola Post by: bergeroo on October 10, 2014, 05:15:49 PM My friend's husband is a scientist in this field and has been on various TV and media outlets taking about it. Conclusion yes it is dangerous but if we get organised we can control it and the media is of course guilty of overhyping and overblowing the situation. Getting him lots of TV work though! :)

She showed symptoms just hours after the flight making it very possible she was contagious.
Can I just start of by saying if she survives, and I very much hope she does, I would expect she is never allowed to work in the medical profession again. Title: Re: Ebola Post by: clementine on October 16, 2014, 07:48:04 AM They said the nurse was getting better, so we'll see. :/
