Title: WPT 125 hand
Post by: teamonkey on October 09, 2014, 07:08:52 PM
hello chaps and chapesses,

2 hands that have been bothering me for the last week or so, would like some input please.

I had played the Sunday 1pm turbo and got thru with about 300k in chips after a rather scary final hand of the turbo where UTG goes all in, UTG + 2 goes all in and i reshove with AA, hands were QQ KK and my AA (also a player folded 44 from the BB and the board ran out xx4x4), was not a nice position to be in TBH obviously i'm favourite, but the more hands ou are against the less chance of it holding etc. Anyway, the hands:

hand 1:

UTG raises 2.5x

i'm UTG + 1 and have AQ hearts, i call his raise.

UTG + 2 goes all in for approx 8 BB.

folded round to UTG who also goes all in for approx 13 BB

I had approx 45 BB when the hand started, so was putting in approx 1/4 of my chips.

I thought and thought, and then folded my cards

Hand 2 : i have 35 BB, UTG + 4 has 20 BB

I'm UTG + 3 and have A4 hearts, i raise to 2.3x, UTG + 4 (same guy from UTG + 3 from above hand) min raises, all fold to me and i call.

flop is 4,5,8 rainbow, i check, UTG + 4 bets 5BB and i dwell a few seconds, look at him and confidently put him all in

he calls immediately and tables JJ, i dont catch my outs and pass him chips

So, hand 1, is this a fold or am i too much of a nit

hand 2, at what point should i have folded ???

Mick

Easy call, might 3b to force him allin depending on stacks and how he plays, sometimes just flat and see what happens but i think when he has 13bb total we want it in pre if poss. We should call after the action because it is hard to be dominated and its only 11bb more, very safe if we lose and we have a side pot that covers most of our losses if we lose the main pot.

Hand 2 I'd sometimes open fold, sometimes fold flop too. I would never fold to the 3bet. I think I'd be in the bank for a long time on the flop, see how he reacts.

Yh, hand 1 is a call imo. Tbh, I almost certainly 3b pre to get it in with a stack of this size in a liveament, but if I didn't then I'd be quite happy calling off unless both players are over 60. So yeah, what picken said :)

Hand 2, whether I open pre depends on a few things. Like, how deep are we in the tournament at this point? What's the average stack in bbs, what sort of stacks are there left to act at my table, how is everyone playing (is every flop 5 ways, is it quite 3betty, is everyone really tight) etc. More often than not, reasonably far into a comp of this type where the average stack is still like 35/40bbs but the blinds are big enough that everyone has started folding, I'll play this hand. It's mathematically bad to fold to a 3b of this size with pretty much anything, so I'm either calling or jamming depending on the player. Calling can basically never be bad imo. As for this flop... Obviously not the best for us, but far from the worst. I probably end up getting it in here a fair bit, unless some sort of read prompts me to think otherwise. I mean, even if we run into overpairs, we're still like 25-30%.

On the hand 2 flop is c/jamming > calling?

Am I a nit for just wanting to check fold the flop?

Meh, if he only ever has AA-JJ we have 25% vs his range so its a fold, but as soon as we add AK ss into it then we're like just under 45% against the guys range on the flop, and we're getting better than 2 to 1 to continue in the hand.

Hand 1 - can't wait to call

Hand 2 - 2 options either 4 bet fold pre, or flat the 3 bet and chk call the flop and fold any turn unimproved.. check jamming seems real spewey and literally u rep nothing the way the hands been played imo..E. G I'd snap u with 77 in this spot the way the hands played out... literally if u want to tell a story like you have it then bet accordingly imo.

generally defending against a 6 outs or dead hand, dont see him folding anything but air.

Just read through up to the first hand. Could you fill us in a little more if you can recall the stacksizes
some more please. The UTG opener for instance whats his stack. Any big stacks behind? I see the 8bb and the 13bb
players get it in.

If there are no big stacks we can just Jam the first hand I feel.

Second hand we could argue for a fold pre. When he mins us back from a 20bb stack that's not really an ideal result at
these stack sizes so we can still pass here again. A4s has not changed a great deal on the flop so again I can find a fold here
should we get this far.

If you are not so confidant playing AQs then I would just make life easy and pass up this spot. 35bbs is a healthy stack so we
can bide our time somewhat still. Kind of depends on skill level and general postflop aggression of both yourself and the opponents (not something you lack)
