It's the one day of the year when we all remember those that gave their lives so that we could live ours...it shouldn't just be one day though...we should always remember.

When you feel like you have had a real shit day, whether it be poker related, work related or whatever the reason...always remember your life (whether it be great, average or not so good) is only the life it is because many many people stood up and put their lives on the line...and many still do...for the future generations they would never know.

Raise a glass and pay your respects...we will remember them.

Couldn't say it better myself.  My biggest charity donation every year.  Always remember and give generously.

I don't understand why people need a reason not to, up to the individual really. There was a load of pointless fuss about a couple of news readers etc not wanting to wear them recently, once again up to them if they want to or not...

McLean got all sorts of dogs abuse a couple of years ago when he refused to wear a poppy when playing for Sunderland.

Now he's articulated his reasons, the reaction was pretty positive.

Surely the right of choice and to live in a democracy is why people gave up their lives in the two world wars.

My Dad sometimes sings this when he has the guitar out, and it always made me cry even as a little girl.

It's always the second verse that really gets me, as it reminds me that not only did millions lose their lives but they took countless families hopes and dreams with them.
A truly unimaginable sacrifice all round.

There was 4 separate matches being played ......at 11:00 we had two minutes silence started and finished by a guy playing the last post on his bugle.

it was very moving.

It's a shame that McLean had to issue an open letter.  The poppy fascism gets right on my wick, as you say Camel it should be down to the individual.

I don't wear a poppy, never have and never will.  My reasons are different to James McLean but they are my reasons. 

Y'all know this is an anti-war song and not sung in support of wars.  I never saw it but from reading facebook it seems the BBC played this and missed out the most important verse and point of the song. 

Of course its anti-war, but not necessarily anti-soldier, and they're who we're remembering though right?

I remember the victims not the agitators or participants.  Which is why I find the whole hypocrisy around the poppy quite gaulling. 

The vast majority of the participants were the victims.

IMO of course.
