Title: What if...?
Post by: The Camel on November 26, 2014, 12:10:13 PM
Matthew Harding hadn't died in that helicopter crash in 1996?

What would the state of British football be now?

Would Abramovich be at Chelsea or another club?

Would Mourinho be the Man United today?

Where would Chelsea be now?

What do you think?

Abraamovich would have bought QPR (nap)

Abramovich buys another London club, probably Spurs, who throw a lot of money at building a team in a new 80,000 stadium that sells out every week

Ferguson retires earlier, with Mourinho installed in 2009 from which point Man U went to even greater success led by the strike force of Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa

Chelsea win three Europa leagues under the management of a succession of manager imports, but struggle to break into the top 4

Crowds are never above 30,000, and they are seen as the poor relations to their north london cousins

In 2010 Stamford Bridge redevelopment is still pending because of funding issues and Chelsea move to a purpose built site near Heathrow Airport. It has a 40,000 capacity, no need for any more

I wonder if Roman might have been tempted to get his claws into Liverpool when Kinboshi's mates Gillette and Hicks took charge?

Isn't the story that Roman was off to meet Lewis to buy Spurs, meeting was delayed 24 hours and Roman saw the Chelsea ground from his helicopter asked whose ground it was and the rest is History?

So assume if Harding had survived, Roman would have bought Spurs, Spurs would be managed by Jose, they would have won multiple league titles and the European cup.

And I guess Spurs wouldn't have had to resort to burning down local businesses (allegedly) to get their stadium plan off the ground.  Arsenal would still finish 4th every year and Chelsea would be mediocre at best?

All worked out for the best it seems (Mr Harding's fate aside of course).
