Title: Dongle assistance please Post by: RedFox on December 12, 2014, 08:34:55 PM Hi folks
I work away from home quite a lot at the moment and trying to find a reasonably cheap alternative eg dongle to using my android phone with a 2gb monthly allowance to permit me to gain internet access to use skype etc .. as a few days blizts my phone data allowance. Im at the very first stages so unsure if simply increasing my phone monthly allowance will be the simple solution as I dont know how much data I will be using. All help appreciated. Thanks Title: Re: Dongle assistance please Post by: hector62 on December 12, 2014, 09:47:16 PM I use a dongle and get 3Gb a month of data for £20 with vodafone and it is ample for all usage bar downloading torrents or using lots of you tube. If it is just for email and surfing the web then it will certainly be enough, 2GB maybe too.

Thanks I pay £30 atm pm... inc tax it is unlimited internet (never been charged for over fair usage) and I tend to tether my tablet a lot. I also get a massive amount of unused calls and never hardly text. My phone is an LG .. Title: Re: Dongle assistance please Post by: EvilPie on December 13, 2014, 01:20:11 PM There's no way in the world that it could possibly work out cheaper getting a dongle than just upgrading your current package or buying data bolt ons.
Only reason for using a dongle would be if you planned to use it for other devices or if you wanted access to another network due to poor service in certain areas on your phone. If a few days blitz's your phone's 2Gb allowance it's going to do exactly the same to a dongle so you'd be better off doing as Maureen suggests and get a different plan with unlimited data. There's loads of them out there from as low as about £12. Title: Re: Dongle assistance please Post by: Longines on December 13, 2014, 04:57:06 PM I'm pretty sure there is nobody now offering tariffs that include unlimited tethering to new customers. There are tariffs that allow unlimited data on the handset, but not tethering. Also, there are people who still have old contracts that allow it but they are diminishing - 3 are actively telling their customers that have these contracts that they are finishing and they must move to a different tariff.
