Title: Account Dilemma Post by: Amatay on December 30, 2014, 04:04:38 PM Hi all,
First thing for those of you that don't know this is Amatay :) I had tighty change my account name a while ago for a few reasons. Anyways, the main point of this thread is a 'dodge' Poker account I have on one particular site. I've been playing poker since 2003/4 and originally the poker account was in my own name. In about 2005 maybe 2006 some random guy offered me a rake back deal but I had to open another account using another name. My mum has since had a very successful Poker account :) I know this is frowned on by the poker community etc but probably less so back then. It's not as thou I was any playing in any remotely big games anyways and never used my new account to create an edge for example. It's not something I would ever do since I started playing for a living in 2008. I've always been a lazy grinder with very small mincey bollocks. However, my volume has significantly increased in the last 5-6 months, I've been winning a decent amount, plus recently I've really found some extra motivation and ambition which I've lacked previously. Basically I plan to play a lot next year and also plan to play more of the bigger flagship tournaments etc. What I'm worried about is that If I was lucky to bink a chunky tournament on a Sunday or something it may look a little odd that a 58 yr old women from Watford has won it and and that she plays a large level of volume etc lol. So the dilemma. Do I..... a, Keep playing on my 'mums' account b, Contact the site and explain the situation, or.... c, Withdraw from 'mums' account and just open a fresh new account. Personally, I want to keep my 'mums' account but want it under my name. However, I am worried I will get banned. Appreciate your opinions. Cheers! Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: Ransom on December 30, 2014, 04:44:44 PM I wouldn't contact the site about it.
It's likely a clear terms of service violation and they may just lock it and seize any funds in the account. It may also prevent you from opening another account on there in the future. I can't even get an account on PKR anymore because I signed up in my own name in 2008 with an old email address which I can't remember and trying to open a new one automatically locks it. I've moved house twice since then, had 3 different bank accounts and email addresses but they still know it's me from my Date of Birth etc. I would try and cash it off myself just to get the money safe, and then go from there. From experience and thing's I've read I'll list the sites below and how they seem to view multi accounting. Pokerstars / Full Tilt - They crack down on it hard, but their support staff are the most helpful and may be a bit lenient if they decide to believe your story. 888 - Don't seem to care. I've had a ton of accounts on there over the years and they probably all still work. They've never instantly locked it and I've cashed out on the majority of them. IPoker - They will insta-lock an account if they detect anything odd, but I've had the live chat staff take the block off in minutes after explaining. May depend on the skin though. PKR - As mentioned above, if they think it's a second account it's an instant ban and they won't unlock the old one unless you send documents. Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: shipitgood on December 30, 2014, 05:12:52 PM You want to keep your "mums" account as you are still getting better rake back? Is there any other reason to play under this account?
It happens a lot on Sky - there is an issue with multi-accounters. The only reason these players do it is so they can get 30% rake back. Which in £ terms can make them an extra £100-£200 a month easily. Take that over 1 year at £200, 2.4k and it's a significant boost for breaking the rules. It's frustrating to a lot of regs who play by the rules that these players are getting this extra money. However, the frustrating thing for me with multi-accounters is the fact i'm sitting playing them, they know how I play while their hiding behind a different screen name. The issue IMO is affiliate websites. There is a lot of talk of what is damaging the industry / why it's in decline. It's affiliates offering these great rake back deals, which encourages people to multi-account to get these great deals, which is most defiantly damaging to the overall poker economy. From a business's perspective also, they are paying 30% rake back to the player, the affiliate is also getting their cut, say 3/5%, of any rake that player plays on that site for as long as they play. Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: Amatay on December 30, 2014, 05:20:24 PM The rakeback deal lasted about a year. I don't get rb anymore and haven't done for a long time. I want to keep my 'mums' account as its not right to have a different name and perhaps have an edge over opponents. I have certain dynamics with certain players. If I had another name then obviously I create an unfair advantage however it can also work against me as i have a opinion of how I think certain players perceive me and adjust accordingly etc. I want to keep the same username but my bank details.
Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: kinboshi on December 30, 2014, 05:34:20 PM Your mum.
Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: kinboshi on December 30, 2014, 05:35:59 PM Is there any reason to change the accounts you're currently using, other than the fear that you'll bink big and your 'cover' will be blown? Will the site care that a 58-year old woman has just won a big comp and grinds serious volume?
Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: titaniumbean on December 30, 2014, 05:37:01 PM Your mum. lol this if you honestly think contacting the site is going to be a good idea your prob not +ev at poker, come on...... ;dingdell; ;hide; Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: titaniumbean on December 30, 2014, 05:37:49 PM Is there any reason to change the accounts you're currently using, other than the fear that you'll bink big and your 'cover' will be blown? Will the site care that a 58-year old woman has just won a big comp and grinds serious volume? what happens when they want to interview the high volume middle aged woman? what happens if they even try and contact 'her' once. sick optimism though :D Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: The Camel on December 30, 2014, 05:38:34 PM I was just about to post the name "Amatay" in the whatever happened to thread!
Stuff like this wouldn't have happened in the first place if poker sites hadn't gone down the route of offering different rb deams to different players It was penalising their loyal players to the benefit of new players. Stupid. In you spot, I'd likely just carry on as you currently are. You are liable to lose both accounts if you contact the site. Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: shipitgood on December 30, 2014, 05:40:30 PM it may look a little odd that a 58 yr old women from Watford has won it and and that she plays a large level of volume etc lol.
This is the highlight of the thread! Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: EvilPie on December 30, 2014, 05:40:40 PM Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: Simon Galloway on December 30, 2014, 05:40:47 PM Out of principle you should close your mum's account immediately.
And then out of financial benefit your auntie should contact me shortly for a cracking rb deal..... Can see Matt Pitt (aka yorky pud) doing an article on Pokernews about my mum binking a big one and flying up the P5 rankings. Just seems a bit dodge. Got to respect my optimism Titbean :) Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: titaniumbean on December 30, 2014, 05:42:07 PM it also matter what site its on tbh

Withdraw funds from Mum's account first. You won't have a name edge for long, people will recognise you soon enough.

Where u at now? Thought US was a possibility with bird..... Future travel plans? In short, I split up with her in June/July. My decision, all good. So obviously Boston was off the cards. I had been back teaching part time for a yr at a University alongside Poker. Two days a week lecturing Sport Psychology to undergrads which I loved but it was a temporary position. Since June it's been Poker full time again although I did start teaching on a Mondays at an FE college a few weeks ago. Poker is going ok and i've been kind of enjoying it. Only travel plans for 2015 right now are Krakow, Poland and Marbs for a stag do :) I've got the travel bug again atm thou and have been craving to get away. Three possibilities include an epic South American trip or maybe back to Asia as I never really did north Thai, north Laos and i've only ever been to Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. I've also thought about going to Hungary for one-three months. Using Budapest as a base and exploring the surrounding countries/cities like Zagreb and ljubljana etc. Life's good mate :) Hope you are well? Any travel plans yourself? Gonna go somewhere this weekend mate for 7-10 days, but still don't know where because of solicitors dicking around with exchanging on a house purchase I'm making, probably book somewhere today if it happens. Was hoping for Goa but too late for visa and stuff there now, Flights to Jo'burg, Rio or Bangkok again all possible at this stage but prices change so fast we will see. I think Japan, the Bahrain Grand Prix and an overland trip from Bangkok to Beijing are all on the cards for this year, but I change my mind like the wind if mates are going somewhere I'm interested in so anything can happen. Was really lucky to win a £3k travel voucher from work this year so some good stuff is deffo happening :) Title: Re: Account Dilemma Post by: AlexMartin on January 01, 2015, 08:57:29 PM seems like an absolute nobrainer? whatever you do do not tell the site
