This hand I call an open from a weak player with 36bb on the BTN here, we flop quite well, the short stacked player has a 3-1 stack to pot, I went for a pot bet in the hope to force the SB out and hopefully isolate myself with the short stack where i'd have a really easy play vs him (be all in effectively) the SB calls and the short stack folds and we get a really good turn card. There is 330 in the pot with 855 in stacks. What next? Title: Re: More PLO! Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: SuuPRlim on January 18, 2015, 04:55:54 PM I think if we're worried about him betting us of our hand (Q9) or our equity (the wrap and the FD) then the best course of action for us would be to check back? We get to pick off some bluffs if we decide that's worth doing - all our kickers make us straights but cards like 6/5/T/Q we might be able to bluff catch.
Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: Ironside on January 18, 2015, 11:21:36 PM i am thinking more along the lines of if we miss the motherload we still have enough for a pot bet shove on river
if we hit the mother load there is enough in the pot so we could make a value bet and get it paid Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: GreekStein on January 19, 2015, 01:08:53 PM Hi Dave

Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: DMorgan on January 19, 2015, 08:57:11 PM Hi Dave,
I prefer betting here and going with a big sizing, we can potentially get him off some better Qx hands, we don't cap our range and its not the end of the world if he does jam since we have a boatload of equity. I don't really know if this is something that a lot of people do but if I'm sitting in his spot with a big draw or a set I'd be more likely to start shoveling money in to lower the SPR and negate the positional disadvantage whereas in position I'd be much more apt to peel and play turns and rivers with a higher SPR, so I think his range is going to be more weighted towards some marginal stuff that he feels that he can't fold for one bet and a lot of the time I'd expect a chunky bet here to get him off a decent chunk of equity Thats the plan anyway :) Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: Oxford_HRV on January 19, 2015, 11:27:24 PM on the flop with a big draw i'd expect villain to play as you say to lower the SPR. but on this texture i'd say i prefervillain pot controlling a set and effectively 'drawing' to blank turns as playing a set here too aggressively could may well be far from optimal on this texture as we will see a lot of super good draws.
I agree with dave and prefer to check back here, but i dont think we should proceed to presumeably bluff catch on paired cards. unless we have good evidence villains got a lot of FD+GS style hands. Title: Re: More PLO! Post by: SuuPRlim on January 20, 2015, 10:42:55 AM ahhh nice responses :)
I agree with pretty much everything Dan/Oxford have said, I agree that if we bet, then it is without doubt a semi-bluff and our primary objective is to get him folding. Hands we'd REALLY like him to fold are club flush draws. One thing though is that he's called the flop knowing that the other player has a perfect stack to jam - and that we're likely to re-iso so i think a lot of weak made hands might fold the flop - IDK what he'll do with hands like AKT6 or AKQ4 KJ67 hands like this I imagine he'll call one bet at least. I ended up going for another pot bet, basically committing to the hand and hoping he would have a few more marginal hands in his range that would fold, he has - as Oxford called 666 so was effectively "drawing" to a blank turn/hoping the other player would ship the flop. At the time I was pretty happy with the play and considered myself a touch unlucky to run into what is kinda the top of his range - after thinking about it in a little more detail I'm starting to become skeptical about how many weaker hands he has in his range OTT as getting folds from them are a fairly crucial part of the hands profitability. There is also the possibility that he has a big draw, in which case he'll prolly just call this bet as opposed to going all-in so I don't necessarily have to do my whole stack to dominating hands. Would anyone like to have a bash at trying to figure out the EV of a pot vs the EV of a check?! Despite any of this though the river card was a 7, so i won. Title: Re: More PLO!
